Microbial and Geochemical Dynamics of an Aquifer Stimulated for Microbial Induced Calcite Precipitation (MICP)
Juliette Ohan,Sina Saneiyan,Junghwoon Lee,Andrew W. Bartlow,Dimitrios Ntarlagiannis,Susan E. Burns,Frederick S. Colwell +6 more
TL;DR: Geochemical and biological markers that highlight the microbial community response that can be used along with geophysical and geotechnical evidence to assess progress of MICP are identified.
Biocrusts: Overlooked hotspots of managed soils in mesic environments
C. E. Gall,Juliette Ohan,Karin Glaser,Ulf Karsten,Michael Schloter,Thomas Scholten,Stefanie Schulz,Steffen Seitz,Julia Katharina Kurth +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors call for interdisciplinary physical, biological, microbiological, chemical, and applied soil science research with a special focus on biocrusts of managed soils from mesic environments, to better understand their impact on overall ecosystem health and resilience.

Microbiome convergence and deterministic community assembly along successional biocrust gradients on potash salt heaps.
Juliette Ohan,Roberto Siani,Julia Katharina Kurth,Veronika Sommer,Karin Glaser,Ulf Karsten,Michael Schloter,Stefanie Schulz +7 more
TL;DR: In this article , the authors examined two succesionary salinity gradients at historical mining sites using a high throughput amplicon sequencing and found that the initial stages of biocrust development were dominated by site-specific Cyanobacteria, with significant overlap between sites.
