TL;DR: In this article, a method for diagnosing a genetic predisposition in a subject for diseases, disorders or conditions selected from the group consisting of diabetic kidney complications comprising kidney diseases of type 2 diabetes or type 1 diabetes, end stage renal disease (ESRD) due to Type 2 diabetes, ESRD due to hypertension in type 2 diabetics, and End Stage Renal Disease due to type 1 diabetic complications such as atherosclerotic peripheral vascular disease.

TL;DR: The authors' models suggest that intensive management may reduce hospitalizations in persons with young-onset T2D, and antihyperglycemic agents that are neutral with respect to cardiovascular risk would still be expected to confer benefits simply because they would lower blood glucose levels.
