Sleep disruption exacerbates and prolongs the inflammatory response to traumatic brain injury.
Zoe M. Tapp,Julia E. Kumar,Kristina G. Witcher,Ravitej R Atluri,John A Velasquez,Shane M O'Neil,Julia E. Dziabis,Chelsea E. Bray,John F. Sheridan,Jonathan P. Godbout,Olga N. Kokiko-Cochran +10 more
TL;DR: The hypothesis that post-injury SD alters stress-immune pathways and alters inflammatory outcomes after TBI is supported and new insight is provided to the dynamic interplay between TBI, stress, and inflammation.
Sleep fragmentation engages stress-responsive circuitry, enhances inflammation and compromises hippocampal function following traumatic brain injury
Zoe M. Tapp,Sydney Cornelius,Alexa Oberster,Julia E. Kumar,Ravitej R Atluri,Kristina G. Witcher,Braedan Oliver,Chelsea E. Bray,John A Velasquez,Fang-li Zhao,Juan Peng,John F. Sheridan,C. Askwith,Jonathan P. Godbout,Olga N. Kokiko-Cochran +14 more
TL;DR: In this article , the effects of stress after traumatic brain injury on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA)-axis were investigated. But, the results showed that post-TBI SF increased cortical expression of interferon- and stressassociated genes characterized by inhibition of the upstream regulator NR3C1 that encodes glucocorticoid receptor (GR).

Comparison between Midline and Lateral Fluid Percussion Injury in Mice Reveals Prolonged but Divergent Cortical Neuroinflammation
Kristina G. Witcher,Julia E. Dziabis,Chelsea E. Bray,Alan J. Gordillo,Julia E. Kumar,Daniel S. Eiferman,Jonathan P. Godbout,Olga N. Kokiko-Cochran +7 more
TL;DR: Midline and lateral FPI caused similar cortical neuroinflammatory responses acutely and mRNA expression of inflammatory genes was detectable in the brain 7 days later; the primary divergence was that inflammatory gene expression was greater and more diverse subacutely after midline FPI.

Transfusion-Related Acute Lung Injury During Liver Transplantation: A Scoping Review.
Manoj H. Iyer,Julia E. Kumar,Nicolas Kumar,Leonid Gorelik,Nasir Hussain,Erica Stein,Amar Bhatt,Sujatha P. Bhandary,Michael Essandoh,Antolin S. Flores +9 more
TL;DR: Transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI) is a devastating cause of transfusionrelated deaths as mentioned in this paper, however, the incidence of TRALI specifically following transfusion during liver transplant remains unclear.
