A wet gas scrubber, wherein a mechanism for dividing a gas flow into two and for making the cross-sectional area of the gas flow paths variable is provided in a throat part and guides are provided respectively on the upstream side and downstream side of said mechanism so that the pressure loss may be reduced and further the relation between control variables of the variable cross-sectional area mechanism and the gas flow rate may be linearized. The guides are wedge-shaped with the broad ends at the variable mechanism. In one embodiment the variable mechanism comprises a rotor shaft extending transversely of the throat part and a rotor mounted on the shaft. The rotor has a rectangular longitudinal cross section and a transverse cross section which has a different length than width. The rotor has a transverse cross section bounded by a closed curve. In another embodiment the variable mechanism comprises a pair of spaced flexible and stretchable plate members extending along the inside portions of the throat parts. Plate moving elements are connected between the plate parts and are coupled to the plate members for bending the plate members outwardly into the throat parts. In still another embodiment the variable mechanism comprises two spaced sets of bulkhead plates extending along the inside portions of the throat parts. Each set including a first bulkhead plate having one end pivotally mounted on the venturi tube adjacent one gas flow guide and a second bulkhead plate slidably mounted adjacent the other gas flow guide and hingedly coupled to the first bulkhead plate. Plate moving members are connected between the sets of plates and are coupled to the sets of plates for moving the sets of bulkhead plates outwardly into the throat parts.

Wet type gas scrubber

A spherical piston machine comprises a chamber whose wall is at least partly spherical. A spherical piston, mounted within this chamber, comprises two elements, the chamber and piston delimiting a free space of variable shape. At least one of the elements of the piston is angularly fixed to a control axle, forming an angle with the longitudinal axis of the machine and extending in a direction passing through the center of the spherical chamber. The two elements of the spherical piston are articulated in a zone extending perpendicular to each control axle. Means are provided for rotatably driving about its own axis at least one of the control axles, as well as for rotatably driving each control axle about the longitudinal axis of the machine.

A nutating disc type fluid device in which in one embodiment nutating elements are mounting within a single chamber of a housing on a common shaft in a manner which is dynamically and pressure balanced. A divider plate is fitted through slots formed on one side of each nutating element so that relative rotation between the shaft and housing creates successive expanding and contracting volumes to draw fluid into the chamber through inlet ports and to exhaust fluid through outlet ports. The ports are sized and shaped to provide maximum and constant fluid flow. In another embodiment the nutating disc element is formed of an elastomeric material which permits unimpeded passage of solid objects that may be entrained in the fluid.

The disclosure is directed to a nutating action appliance in which the utilization device is driven directly by the wobble plate of a nutating action motor. A wobble plate (21) is contained within a motor housing (10, 11) and is driven with a nutating action by a controlled flow of fluid. An output shaft (28), rigidly secured to the wobble plate, extends out through the housing and is moved in an orbital manner as the wobble plate is driven through its nutating cycle. An ultimate contact-type utilization device (47) is driven directly by the output shaft and is activated with a highly efficient and useful motion, which is an orbital movement without rotation.

Nutating action appliance

An oscillating-piston machine includes a housing, which has a spherical housing inner wall, at least one piston, which is arranged in the housing and can pivote about a pivot axis passing through the centre of the housing, the at least one piston executing reciprocating pivoting movements when the shaft is rotating, and an at least first surface, which extends radially with respect to the housing inner wall, on a front side of the at least one piston delimiting at least a first working chamber. A rotor element, which is rotationally fixedly connected to the shaft and is arranged outside the centre of the housing, is arranged on a rear side of the at least one piston, the rear side of the at least one piston defining at least one circular running surface, which is not radially oriented, along which the rotor element runs when the shaft is rotating and which forms an angle of ≠90° with the axis of rotation, while the at least one piston does not rotate about the axis of rotation.
