Keratin 17 mutations cause either steatocystoma multiplex or pachyonychia congenita type 2
Seana P. Covello,F. J. D. Smith,J.H. Sillevis Smitt,Amy S. Paller,Colin S. Munro,Marcel F. Jonkman,Jouni Uitto,Whi McLean +7 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that K17 mutations commonly underlie both PC‐2 and steatocystoma multiplex and that the alternate phenotypes which arise from these genetic lesions in K17 are independent of the specific mutation involved.

A Mutation in Human Keratin K6b Produces a Phenocopy of the K17 Disorder Pachyonychia Congenita Type 2
TL;DR: A family with PC-2 is described in which the K17 locus was excluded and linkage to the type II keratin locus on 12q was obtained, implying that this keratin is the previously unknown expression partner of K17, analogous to the K6a/K16 pair.

Biological effects of laser welding on vascular healing.
Rodney A. White,R.P. Abergel,Richard Lyons,Stanley R. Klein,George E. Kopchok,Richard M. Dwyer,Jouni Uitto +6 more
TL;DR: This report summarizes the experience using laser welding to repair thick‐walled, high‐pressure, 4 to 8‐mm canine arteries using CO2, Nd:YAG, and argon lasers and suggests laser welding may represent an alternative for repair of small‐and large‐diameter vessels with several advantages compared to conventional suture techniques.

Mechanism of tissue fusion in argon laser-welded vein-artery anastomoses.
Rodney A. White,George E. Kopchok,Carlos E. Donayre,Shi-Kaung Peng,Roy M. Fujitani,Geoffrey H. White,Jouni Uitto +6 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that sutured and argon laser‐welded vein‐artery anastomoses heal comparably up to 16 weeks postoperatively, and that laser welding is a satisfactory alternative to suturing anastmoses.

Argon laser-welded arteriovenous anastomoses
Rodney A. White,George E. Kopchok,Carlos E. Donayre,Geoffrey H. White,Richard Lyons,Roy M. Fujitani,Stanley R. Klein,Jouni Uitto +7 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that argon laser welding of anastomoses is an acceptable alternative to suture techniques, with the advantage of improved healing without foreign body response and possible diminished intimal hyperplasia at theAnastomotic line.
