The advancement in technology has fostered the prevalence of the Internet of Things (IoT), which enhances healthcare business quality, offers a seamless customer experience, and maximizes turnovers and profits. Consequently, omnichannel services have emerged by integrating online and offline channels and providing customers with more real-time information and services to increase their engagement. Healthcare wearable devices appear as a salient tool to connect healthcare providers and patients and thus become an essential part of the omnichannel environment. Along with this trend, the ethical concerns while using these devices have increasingly intensified and are significant barriers to market expansion. Nevertheless, there is a lack of studies discussing the role of wearables in omnichannel hospital supply chain management and examining the influence of those above concerns on healthcare wearables adoption. Therefore, this study explores these gaps through an integrated approach. Furthermore, we proposed a framework integrating the traditional statistical and machine learning-based approach to analyze a large amount of data; and thereby facilitate a data-driven analytic model to manage omnichannel healthcare supply chain businesses. 

Digitalization in omnichannel healthcare supply chain businesses: The role of smart wearable devices

Este relato objetiva compartilhar uma experiencia bem-sucedida do uso do aplicativo WhatsApp® na educacao, destacando a facilidade de acesso as informacoes e o potencial recurso na promocao da saude. Os numeros dos celulares dos participantes do projeto de extensao “Sala de espera: acoes educativas em diabetes” sao cadastrados e, semanalmente, enviam-se mensagens informando sobre autocuidado e alimentacao aos pacientes com diabetes, utilizando-se uma via de transmissao. Desde 2016, foram enviadas 77 mensagens. Apos avaliacao, 94,1% dos participantes consideraram que as mensagens ajudam a esclarecer duvidas sobre nutricao e diabetes. Esta experiencia evidencia como tecnologias de comunicacao sao capazes de fortalecer as estrategias de educacao em saude, proporcionando maior interacao entre servico, universidade e comunidade. Esperamos que esta acao estimule outras equipes de saude a explorarem o potencial informativo das redes sociais, que precisa ser aproveitado em toda plenitude.

The usage, quality and relevance of information and communications technologies in patients with chronic urticaria: A UCARE study

Objectives The aim of the present study was to assess the frequency of use, and preferences regarding information and communication technologies (ICTs) among Ecuadorian patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing hemodialysis. Methods We conducted an anonymous cross-sectional survey-based study from January 2016 to April 2017, involving 393 patients with end-stage renal disease from 9 hemodialysis centers, in which they rated their use and preferences of various ICTs through a modified version of the Michigan Questionnaire. The questionnaire collected information regarding demographics, patients' interest in obtaining health-related information through ICTs, and interest in using ICTs as a potential way to communicate with their healthcare providers. A chi-square test for association and adjusted regression analyses were performed. Results Among all patients who participated, 64.3% reported owning a cellphone, with less than a third reporting active Internet connection. The most used ICT for obtaining information about CKD and/or hemodialysis was web-based Internet, followed by YouTube. SMS was rated the highest to receive and seek health-related information, followed by Facebook. Younger age and higher levels of education were associated with a higher overall usage of ICTs. Finally, more than half of the patients reported interest in using WhatsApp for communicating with their healthcare providers. Conclusions Understanding the preferences of ICTs among patients with CKD undergoing hemodialysis could help to improve their outcomes through the potential uses and benefits of ICTs. Further research is needed to assess their role in improving the care of patients with chronic diseases.

Preferences of ICT among Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease Undergoing Hemodialysis: An Ecuadorian Cross-Sectional Study

With the rapid development and spread of information technology, mobile healthcare (M-healthcare) is emerging as a feasible option for improved monitoring and treatment of patients with chronic diseases such as diabetes, particularly for those with limited access to medical institutions. Our study group has developed and evaluated an M-healthcare system that provides remote guidance for diabetic patients. This paper introduces the diabetic M-healthcare system and describes progress in implementation for remote and mobile healthcare in China. We provide evidence that this system improves diabetic patient management and can contribute to the establishment of a new model for patient-centered mobile healthcare. The main groups that this paper is aimed at are doctors, nurses, nutritionists, and sportspersons engaged in the design of mobile medical systems, and computer engineers involved in the construction of intelligent medical software systems. The present article has as its scope designing the M-healthcare clinical follow-up system, identifying the advantages that the M-healthcare system has in comparison with traditional medical treatment, the clinical application effect of the M-healthcare system, and the development status of remote/mobile medical research in China and abroad.

Development of a diabetes mobile healthcare system and clinical application in China: a narrative review

Purpose. The purpose of this study is to assess the frequency of use of information and communication technologies and patterns of preference among Ecuadorian patients with diabetes. Methods. We conducted an anonymous cross-sectional survey on type 2 diabetes mellitus. A chi-square test for association and adjusted regression analyses were performed. Results. 248 patients were enrolled, with a mean sample age of 57.7 years. SMS was the most used ICT (66.0%). The Internet was used by 45.2% of patients to obtain information about diabetes. SMS and email were rated as the most useful ICTs for receiving information (64.5% and 28.1%, resp.) and asking physicians about diabetes (63.8% and 26.1%, resp.). Patients were also interested in receiving disease information (82.4%) and asking physicians about diabetes (84.7%) through WhatsApp. Adjusted logistic regressions revealed that individuals aged 55 years or younger, those with superior degree level, and those with long diabetes history preferred email for receiving information and asking physicians about diabetes compared to those above 55 years, those with low education level, and those with short diabetes history, respectively. Conclusion. Understanding preferences of ICTs among patients with diabetes could facilitate application development targeted towards specific requirements from patients.
