p38γ is essential for cell cycle progression and liver tumorigenesis
Antonia Tomás-Loba,Elisa Manieri,Elisa Manieri,Bárbara González-Terán,Alfonso Mora,Luis Leiva-Vega,Ayelén M Santamans,Rafael Romero-Becerra,Elena Rodríguez,Aránzazu Pintor-Chocano,Ferran Feixas,Juan Antonio López,Beatriz Caballero,Marianna Trakala,Oscar Blanco,Jorge L Torres,Lourdes Hernández-Cosido,Valle Montalvo-Romeral,Nuria Matesanz,Marta Roche-Molina,Juan A. Bernal,Hannah E. Mischo,Marta León,Ainoa Caballero,Diego Miranda-Saavedra,Diego Miranda-Saavedra,Jesús Ruiz-Cabello,Yulia A. Nevzorova,Yulia A. Nevzorova,Francisco Javier Cubero,Jerónimo Bravo,Jesús Vázquez,Marcos Malumbres,Miguel Marcos,Sílvia Osuna,Guadalupe Sabio +35 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that p38 MAPK gamma (p38γ) acts as a CDK-like kinase and thus cooperates with CDKs, regulating entry into the cell cycle, and could be a therapeutic target in the treatment of this disease.
Adiponectin accounts for gender differences in hepatocellular carcinoma incidence
Elisa Manieri,Elisa Manieri,Leticia Herrera-Melle,Alfonso Mora,Antonia Tomás-Loba,Luis Leiva-Vega,Delia Irene Fernández,Elena Rodríguez,Laura Morán,Lourdes Hernández-Cosido,Jorge L Torres,Luisa M. Seoane,Francisco Javier Cubero,Miguel Marcos,Guadalupe Sabio +14 more
TL;DR: Insight is provided into adipose tissue to liver crosstalk and its gender relation during cancer development, having the potential to guide strategies for new cancer therapeutics.
p38γ and p38δ reprogram liver metabolism by modulating neutrophil infiltration.
Bárbara González-Terán,Nuria Matesanz,Ivana Nikolic,M. Verdugo,M. Verdugo,Vinatha Sreeramkumar,Lourdes Hernández-Cosido,Alfonso Mora,Georgiana Crainiciuc,María Laura Saiz,Edgar Bernardo,Luis Leiva-Vega,Elena Rodríguez,Víctor Bondía,Jorge L Torres,Sonia Perez-Sieira,Luis Ortega,Ana Cuenda,Francisco Sánchez-Madrid,Rubén Nogueiras,Andrés Hidalgo,Miguel Marcos,Guadalupe Sabio +22 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that p38δ is elevated in livers of obese patients with NAFLD and that mice lacking p38γ/δ in myeloid cells are resistant to diet‐induced fatty liver, hepatic triglyceride accumulation and glucose intolerance, and neutrophil infiltration in wild‐type mice contributes to steatosis development by means of inflammation and liver metabolic changes.
MKK6 controls T3-mediated browning of white adipose tissue
Nuria Matesanz,Edgar Bernardo,Rebeca Acín-Pérez,Elisa Manieri,Elisa Manieri,Sonia Perez-Sieira,Lourdes Hernández-Cosido,Valle Montalvo-Romeral,Alfonso Mora,Elena Rodríguez,Luis Leiva-Vega,Ana Victoria Lechuga-Vieco,Jesús Ruiz-Cabello,Jesús Ruiz-Cabello,Jorge L Torres,Maria Crespo-Ruiz,Francisco Centeno,Clara V. Alvarez,Miguel Marcos,José Antonio Enríquez,Rubén Nogueiras,Guadalupe Sabio +21 more
TL;DR: The authors show that the stress activated kinase MKK6 acts as a repressor of UCP1 expression, suggesting that its inhibition promotes adipose tissue browning and increases organismal energy expenditure.

Acquisition of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and its resistance phenotypes in critically ill medical patients: role of colonization pressure and antibiotic exposure.
Nazaret Cobos-Trigueros,Mar Solé,Pedro Castro,Jorge L Torres,Cristina Hernández,Mariano Rinaudo,Sara Fernández,Alex Soriano,Jose María Nicolás,Josep Mensa,Jordi Vila,José Antonio Martínez +11 more
TL;DR: In critical care settings with a high rate of antibiotic use, colonization pressure and non-antibiotic exposures may be the crucial factors for P. aeruginosa acquisition, whereas fluoroquinolones may actually decrease its likelihood.
