Voter Turnout and the Dynamics of Electoral Competition in Established Democracies Since 1945
TL;DR: Franklin et al. as mentioned in this paper compared voter turnout in 20 established democracies since World War II and found that voter turnout is one of the more frequently studied topics in political science, but the results of these studies remain rather poor and unsatisfactory.

Demoted leaders and exiled candidates: Disentangling party and person in the voter’s mind
TL;DR: In this paper, a counterfactual thought experiment was used to find that most voters put party above person, and less than ten percent put person above party, while a sizeable third category has a preference for an individual candidate as long as that candidate does not leave the party.
