IKK1/2 protect human cells from TNF-mediated RIPK1-dependent apoptosis in an NF-κB-independent manner.
Carsten Slotta,Jonathan Storm,Nina Pfisterer,Elena Henkel,Svenja Kleinwächter,Maren Pieper,Lucia M. Ruiz-Perera,Johannes F. W. Greiner,Barbara Kaltschmidt,Christian Kaltschmidt +9 more
TL;DR: The IKK complex to protect from TNF-induced cell death in human cells independently to NF-κB RelA is demonstrated, suggesting IKK1/2 to be highly promising targets for cancer therapy.

Isolation and Characterization of Two Novel Colorectal Cancer Cell Lines, Containing a Subpopulation with Potential Stem-Like Properties: Treatment Options by MYC/NMYC Inhibition.
Jan Schulte am Esch,Beatrice A. Windmöller,Johannes Hanewinkel,Jonathan Storm,Christine Förster,Ludwig Wilkens,Martin Krüger,Barbara Kaltschmidt,Christian Kaltschmidt +8 more
TL;DR: Inhibition of the protein–protein interaction of myc and N-myc proto-oncogenes with the myc-associated factor X utilizing small molecule KJ-Pyr-9, exhibited a significant reduction in survival of both cell lines by the induction of apoptosis, suggesting that the blockage of these interactions may serve as a possible treatment strategy for colorectal cancer cell lines with gene copy number gain of the N-MYC proto- oncogene.

Targeting Key Signaling Pathways in Glioblastoma Stem Cells for the Development of Efficient Chemo- and Immunotherapy
Laureen P. Helweg,Jonathan Storm,Kaya E Witte,Wiebke Schulten,Lennart Wrachtrup,Till Janotte,Angelika Kitke,Johannes F. W. Greiner,Cornelius Knabbe,Barbara Kaltschmidt,Matthias Simon,Christian Kaltschmidt +11 more
TL;DR: This study efficiently targeted GSCs by the pharmacologic inhibition of NF-κB using PTDC/Bortezomib or inhibition of MYC by KJ-Pyr-9, which significantly reduced GSC-viability, even in comparison to the standard chemotherapeutic drug temozolomide.
Ultra-fast one-step RT-PCR protocol for the detection of SARS-CoV-2
Ehsan Asghari,Anna L. Höving,Paula van Heijningen,Annika Kiel,Angela Krahlemann-Köhler,Melanie Lütkemeyer,Jonathan Storm,Tanja Vollmer,Cornelius Knabbe,Barbara Kaltschmidt,Gert de Vos,Christian Kaltschmidt +11 more
TL;DR: A new ultra-fast test method which is ten times faster than conventional diagnostic tests using real time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) is presented, which is easy to handle as well as cost effective.

The Diminishment of Novel Endometrial Carcinoma-Derived Stem-like Cells by Targeting Mitochondrial Bioenergetics and MYC
Laureen P. Helweg,Beatrice A. Windmöller,Leonie Burghardt,Jonathan Storm,Christine Förster,Nils Wethkamp,Ludwig Wilkens,Barbara Kaltschmidt,Constanze Banz-Jansen,Christian Kaltschmidt +9 more
TL;DR: New CSC models are developed and the molecular pathways involved in survival to identify targets for the establishment of novel therapies are analyzed to further study the contribution of ECSCs to endometrial carcinogenesis.
