A blood pump with an interatrial shunt for use as an electrohydraulic total artificial heart.
E. Tatsumi,P. D. Diegel,John W. Holfert,Dew Pa,Crump Kr,A. C. Hansen,P. S. Khanwilkar,John R. Rowles,Don B. Olsen +8 more
TL;DR: A recently designed blood pump subsystem for the completely implantable electrohydraulic total artificial heart (EHTAH) has been developed and is under evaluation, and no evidence of thrombus formation was found in or around the IAS at autopsy.

Bilateral anterior thoracotomy for automatic implantable cardioverter defibrillator placement in patients with previous sternotomy
TL;DR: Bilateral anterior thoracotomy, extrapericardial patches, and endocardial sensing lead placement have been used in 40 patients with previous sternotomy, and in all patients the defibrillation threshold was less than 20 J.
16
Simplified muscle-sparing thoracotomy for patent ductus arteriosus ligation in neonates
TL;DR: Improved functional and cosmetic results as well as less postoperative pain may be obtained by preserving the latissimus dorsi and serratus anterior muscles.

Development of a totally implantable artificial heart.
John R. Rowles,P. S. Khanwilkar,P. D. Diegel,A. C. Hansen,Gill B. Bearnson,K. D. Smith,E. Tatsumi,Don B. Olsen +7 more
TL;DR: The first generation of an integrated, totally implantable electrohydraulic total artificial heart was designed for long-term cardiac replacement and is being assembled and refined for long, term animal implant studies.
