TL;DR: The first cull of Shorthorn cattle on Enderby island was carried out in 1990 as discussed by the authors, and a cow and her calf that survived the first cull and epididymal sperm from nine bulls that were shot were returned to New Zealand in an attempt to preserve the genetic line.
