Some embodiments of the invention allow encapsulation of cold rows through an enclosure and allow server fans to draw cold air from the cold row encapsulation structure to cool servers installed on the server racks. In other particular embodiments, the systems disclosed can be used to mix outside cool air into the cold row encapsulation structure to cool the servers. In some embodiments, the present invention involves using multiple cold row encapsulation structures to cool the servers installed on the racks.

Total power consumption of information-processing devices and power supply/cooling facilities is reduced to realize energy saving operation of information-processing system. The information-processing system includes information-processing devices, power supply facilities, cooling facilities and an operations management device. The operations management device is connected to the devices and the facilities and includes layout information constituted of locations and operating information of the devices and locations and environmental information of the facilities. Also, the operations management device obtains the power consumption of the devices, the power supply loss of the power supply facilities and the cooling power of the cooling facilities by using the layout information, and then allocates the workloads to the devices so as to reduce the total sum of power consumption, supply loss and cooling power.

Operations management methods and devices thereof in information-processing systems

Described are methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer program products, relating to an air module and control thereof. An air module can include a controller, an air intake module configured to receive first air from a first air source and to receive second air from a second air source, an evaporative cooling module in fluid communication with the air intake module, and a mechanical cooling module in fluid communication with the evaporative cooling module. The controller can be configured to cause the intake module to mix the first air and the second air to form intake air, and selectively cool the intake air to form supply air by at least one of causing the evaporative cooling module to selectively cool the intake air, and causing the mechanical cooling module to selectively cool the intake.

Modular data center

A modular computing system for a data center includes one or more data center modules including rack-mounted computer systems. An electrical module is coupled to the data center modules and provides electrical power to computer systems in the data center modules. One or more air handling modules are coupled to the data center modules. The data center module may include two pre-fabricated portions, each portion including a row of racks of computer systems. The two computing module portions of the data center module may combine to form a computing space when coupled to one another.

Systems are provided for cooling data centers based on a cooperative system including a plurality of Indirect Air-Side Economizers, also referred to as Recirculation Air Cooling Units, that are advantageously operated in conjunction with one or more Side Stream Filtration Units or filters inclusive to a portion of the IASE/RACUs, and one or more Make-Up Air Dehumidification/Humidification Units for the introduction of ventilation air and control of humidity within the enclosed space. An objective of the systems according to this disclosure is to provide the necessary rejection of heat, removal of particulate from the air, and control of the absolute moisture content of the air within a data center.

Methods for removing heat from enclosed spaces with high internal heat generation

A data center has equipment racks in which electronic equipment is disposed and a climate control system that includes a computer room air conditioner (CRAC) and an air economizer. The climate control system includes a control module that controls the climate control system. The control module determines whether outside air is suitable for use in cooling the data center based on the dry bulb temperature and humidity of the outside air. If the outside air is not suitable for, only the CRAC is used to cool the data center. If the outside air is suitable for use, outside air and not the CRAC is used to cool the data center when the dry bulb temperature of the outside air is below a minimum outside air dry bulb temperature set point. The outside air is conditioned before it is introduced as supply air into the data center so that the supply air is above a minimum temperature. If the outside air is suitable for use and the dry bulb temperature of the outside air is above the minimum outside air dry bulb temperature set point, the control module determines a cooling percentage of cooling of the data center to be provided by the CRAC and a cooling percentage to be provided by the outside air, where the percentage can range from zero percent to one-hundred percent. The control module then controls the climate control system so that the CRAC and outside air provide cooling of the data center according to their respective determined cooling percentages.
