Military applications of high-accuracy frequency standards and clocks

An interferometer system comprising an optical detector including a substrate and a two-dimensional array of pixels disposed on the substrate is provided. The interferometer system may further comprise an interferometer disposed proximate the optical detector without an optical element between the interferometer and the optical detector. The interferometer may include a first plate positioned proximate the substrate and extending over the two-dimensional array of pixels, a second plate spaced apart from the first plate, the first and second plates defining an optical gap between them, and at least one actuatable spacer positioned between the first plate and the second plate and configured to space apart the first and second plates from one another and to selectively alter a thickness of the optical gap.

Compound semiconductor electronics continue to deliver performance unparalleled by silicon technology in addressing the stressing system needs of the U.S. Department of Defense. While silicon technology dominates in any application where a high level of integration can be exploited, realizing ultimate transistor performance for applications that stress linearity, dynamic range, noise figure, power efficiency, or maximum speed requires the use of compound semiconductor materials and device optimization at the junction level. This talk will present recent advances in compound semiconductor electronics ranging from low power antimonides, to high power, wide bandgap nitrides, and ultra-high speed indium phosphide. Progress will focus on ultra-low-power receivers, reliable highpower, high-linearity transmitters, and record-speed mixedsignal circuits. Future trends for mixed technology integration and scaling to achieve THz transistor speeds will also be presented. Microsystem is a comprehensive course based on Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems,manufacturing technology of integrated circuit and other sciences,which is minitype,integrated,intelligent,inexpensive,efficient and productive.The composing and principle on microsystem domestic and oversea were described,the history and status on development of microsystem and distribution of industry were also introduced.Kinds of significant technologies on the machining of micro-structure instrument were presented and the principle,characteristic and technic in wet-etching,deep dry-etching,surface processing,binding,LIGA technology,nanoimprint technology and technology of producting high aspect ratio structures(HARPSS) were analyzed.HARPSS can make devices three-dimensional.Extraordinarily LIGA,which utilizes the excellent permeability of X-ray,can make high aspect ratio greater than 200:1,so that the size of structures can be smaller.The advantages of every technology combined with typical micro device were also pointed out such as mini-capacitor microphone and gear wheel.

Situation in the development of microsystem pivotal technology

Scaling trends in microsystems are discussed frequently in the technical community, providing a short-term perspective on the future of integrated microsystems. This paper looks beyond the leading edge of technological development, focusing on new microsystem design paradigms that move far beyond today's systems based on static components. We introduce the concept of Adaptive Microsystems and outline a path to realizing these systems-on-a-chip. The role of DARPA in advancing future components and systems research is discussed, and specific DARPA efforts enabling and producing adaptive microsystems are presented. In particular, we discuss efforts underway in the DARPA Microsystems Technology Office (MTO) including programs in novel circuit architectures (3DIC), adaptive imaging and sensing (AFPA, VISA, MONTAGE, A-to-I) and reconfigurable RF/Microwave devices (SMART, TFAST, IRFFE).
