Clinical and Cognitive Characteristics Associated with Mathematics Problem Solving in Adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Tasha M. Oswald,Jonathan S. Beck,Ana-Maria Iosif,James B. McCauley,Leslie J. Gilhooly,John C. Matter,Marjorie Solomon +6 more
TL;DR: The parsimonious linear regression model revealed that the strongest predictor of math problem solving was perceptual reasoning, followed by verbal ability and test anxiety, then diagnosis of ASD, and these results inform the theories of math ability in ASD.

Feedback-driven trial-by-trial learning in autism spectrum disorders.
Marjorie Solomon,Michael J. Frank,J. Daniel Ragland,Anne C. Smith,Tara A. Niendam,Tyler A. Lesh,David Grayson,Jonathan S. Beck,John C. Matter,Cameron S. Carter +9 more
TL;DR: Individuals with autism spectrum disorders exhibit learning deficits reflecting impaired ability to develop an effective reward-based working memory to guide stimulus selection and continue to rely on trial-by-trial feedback processing to support learning dependent upon engagement of the anterior cingulate and orbito-frontal cortices.
Atypical Learning in Autism Spectrum Disorders: A Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging Study of Transitive Inference.
Marjorie Solomon,Marjorie Solomon,J. Daniel Ragland,Tara A. Niendam,Tyler A. Lesh,Jonathan S. Beck,John C. Matter,Michael J. Frank,Cameron S. Carter +8 more
TL;DR: Failure to reliably engage cognitive control-related brain regions may produce less integrated flexible learning in individuals with ASD unless they are provided with task support that provides them with cognitive control; however, this pattern may normalize with age.
