A compressed gas vehicle fuel storage system comprised of a plurality of compressed gas pressure cells (30) supported by shock-absorbing foam (33, 34) positioned within a shape-conforming container. The container is dimensioned relative to the compressed gas pressure cells (30) whereby a radial air gap surrounds each compressed gas pressure cell. The radial air gap (20) allows pressure-induced expansion of the pressure cells (30) without resulting in the application of pressure to adjacent pressure cells or physical pressure to the container. The pressure cells are interconnected by a gas control assembly (40) including a thermally activated pressure relief device, a manual safety shut-off valve, and means for connecting the fuel storage system to a vehicle power source and a refueling adapter. The gas control assembly (40) is enclosed by a protective cover attached to the container. The system is attached to the vehicle with straps to enable the chassis to deform as intended in a high-speed collision.

This pressurized-gas storage assembly includes a pressure vessel having a gas storage chamber and access opening, a polar boss extending through the access opening, a plastic liner lining the gas storage chamber, and a fitting body. The plastic liner includes a nipple portion that extends into the polar boss, terminates at an annular rim, and has a screw-threaded radially inner surface region. The fitting body includes a head portion, an extension longitudinally extending from an end of the head portion and having a screw-threaded radially outer surface region, and an annular shoulder. The annular shoulder has an annular recess formed therein, with a compressible O-ring being accommodated within he annular recess. By inserting the extension through the access opening and positioning the screw-threaded radially outer surface region of the extension into mechanical engagement with the screw-threaded radially inner surface region of the nipple portion, the O-ring is compressed between the annular shoulder of the fitting body and the annular rim of the liner. As a consequence, the O-ring is compressed and a hermetic seal is established between the inner liner and the fitting body, thereby preventing escape of stored compressed gas through the access opening.

Containers (1) suitable for storing pressurized fluids at cryogenic temperatures of -62°C(-80°F) and colder are provided and comprise a self-supporting liner (3) and load-bearing composite overwrap (2), whreby means are provided for substantially preventing failure of the container (1) during temperature changes.

Systems and methods for producing and storing pressurized liquefied natural gas (PLNG) are provided, wherein the systems and methods include (a) a natural gas processing plant suitable for producing PLNG; and (b) at least one container suitable for storing the PLNG, the at least one container comprising (i) a load-bearing vessel made from a composite material and (ii) a substantially non-load-bearing liner in contact with the vessel, said liner providing a substantially impermeable barrier to the PLNG. The systems and methods also preferably include (c) means for transporting the at least one container containing PLNG to an import terminal.

Systems and methods for producing and storing pressurized liquefied natural gas

A pressure vessel (10) for holding a pressurized fluid such as compressed natural gas ('CNG') includes two end cells (12) and zero or more interior cells. The cell geometry ensures that the cells (12) meet one another at tangential circular surfaces, thereby reducing the tendency of adjacent cells to peel apart. A web (14) secured about the cells includes two sheets that are tangent to the cells (12). Unused volumes between the cells (12) and the web contain wedges of foam or rubber. A valve (22) provides fluid communication between the interior of the pressure vessel and a pressurized fluid line. The filled weight of one pressure vessel does not exceed the filled weight of a conventional gasoline tank that occupies substantially the same space as the pressure vessel. The pressure vessel may be configured with exterior recesses for engaging conventional gasoline tank straps.

INTRODUCTION
Children undergoing cervical and/or thoracic operations are at risk for recurrent laryngeal nerve injury, resulting in vocal fold movement impairment (VFMI). Screening for VFMI is often reserved for symptomatic patients.


OBJECTIVE
Identify the prevalence of VFMI in screened preoperative patients prior to an at-risk operation to evaluate the value of screening all patients at-risk for VFMI, regardless of symptoms.


METHODS
A single center, retrospective review of all patients undergoing a preoperative flexible nasolaryngoscopy between 2017 and 2021, examining the presence of VFMI and associated symptoms.


RESULTS
We evaluated 297 patients with a median (IQR) age of 18 (7.8, 56.3) months and a weight of 11.3 (7.8, 17.7) kilograms. Most had a history of esophageal atresia (EA, 60%), and a prior at-risk cervical or thoracic operation (73%). Overall, 72 (24%) patients presented with VFMI (51% left, 26% right, and 22% bilateral). Of patients with VFMI, 47% did not exhibit the classic symptoms (stridor, dysphonia, and aspiration) of VFMI. Dysphonia was the most prevalent classic VFMI symptom, yet only present in 18 (25%) patients. Patients presenting with a history of at-risk surgery (OR 2.3, 95%CI 1.1, 4.8, p = 0.03), presence of a tracheostomy (OR 3.1, 95%CI 1.0, 10.0, p = 0.04), or presence of a surgical feeding tube (OR 3.1, 95%CI 1.6, 6.2, p = 0.001) were more likely to present with VFMI.


CONCLUSION
Routine screening for VFMI should be considered in all at-risk patients, regardless of symptoms or prior operations, particularly in those with a history of an at-risk surgery, presence of tracheostomy, or a surgical feeding tube.
