Mechanobiology in the third dimension.
TL;DR: This review examines how the dimensionality of the extracellular environment can affect in vitro cell mechanobiology, focusing on collagen and fibrin systems.
Effects of extracellular fiber architecture on cell membrane shear stress in a 3D fibrous matrix.
TL;DR: Flow through an idealized mesh constructed of a cubic lattice of fibers simulating a typical in vitro collagen gel found that the fibers strongly affect the flow fields near the cell, with peak shear stresses up to five times higher than those predicted by the Brinkman equation.

Cells in 3D matrices under interstitial flow: effects of extracellular matrix alignment on cell shear stress and drag forces
TL;DR: The results suggest that the experimentally observed active remodeling of ECM fibers by fibroblasts under interstitial flow to a perpendicular alignment could serve to decrease the shear and drag forces on the cell.

US Intergroup Anal Carcinoma Trial: Tumor Diameter Predicts for Colostomy
J. A. Ajani,Kathryn Winter,Leonard L. Gunderson,John A. Pedersen,Al B. Benson,Charles R. Thomas,Robert J. Mayer,Michael G. Haddock,Tyvin A. Rich,Christopher G. Willett +9 more
TL;DR: T tumor diameter is the only independent pretreatment variable that predicts TTC and 5-year colostomy rate in patients with anal carcinoma, and clinical nodal status and sex were not predictive of TTC.
Intergroup RTOG 98–11: A phase III randomized study of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), mitomycin, and radiotherapy versus 5-fluorouracil, cisplatin and radiotherapy in carcinoma of the anal canal
J. A. Ajani,Kathryn Winter,Leonard L. Gunderson,John A. Pedersen,Al B. Benson,Charles R. Thomas,Robert J. Mayer,Michael G. Haddock,C. Willett,Tyvin A. Rich +9 more
TL;DR: In Intergroup-98-11, induction 5-FU/cisplatin followed by 5-fu/c isplatin/radiation failed to improve DFS compared to the standard treatment, 5-Fu/mitomycin/ Radiation.
