Autonomization and digitization in the context of Industry 4.0 are fundamentally changing logistics, with new approaches in this context offering great potential for intralogistics to solve the emerging challenges. However, companies need to look beyond the hype and recognize the opportunities and threats arising from Industry 4.0 and define target images that chart the way forward into the new world. For this reason, a methodical approach is required that efficiently guides a company through the identification of new technological opportunities for its intralogistics and additionally takes into account relevant information to increase people's acceptance. Therefore, the aim of this work is to develop a standardized method that provides a guideline for the design of a company-specific technology vision for intralogistics. Techniques of technology management are used and extended with a focus on a company-specific application in intralogistics. The method is applied to the logistics of a commercial vehicle manufacturer and expert surveys are used for an iterative optimization. Conventional approaches to strategic technology management are thus extended and a process-specific application view in intralogistics is made possible.

Developing a Company-Specific Technology Vision for Intralogistics Processes

: The need for ever-higher performance in pallet storage systems has led to the development of Dynamic Hybrid Pallet Warehouses (DHPW). DHPWs are created by either hybridizing a stacker crane-based warehouse with shuttles, or by hybridizing a shuttle-based warehouse with stacker cranes. One limiting factor in both categories is the bottleneck caused by having multiple stacker cranes in a single aisle. In this paper, we demonstrate that, by using the proper control algorithms, the stacker crane bottleneck can be alleviated in relation to the second DHPW category – almost to the point of reaching the performance that would be obtained by introducing an additional stacker crane. Finally, we illustrate how the design of the loop on the base tier has an increasing influence on the range of bottleneck improvement as the number of shuttles increases.

Abstract Die Dimensionierung heterogener Transportsysteme ist aufgrund fehlender vergleichender Ansätze eine schwierige Planungsaufgabe, die mit Unsicherheiten und suboptimalen Lösungen verbunden ist. Die hohe Komplexität solcher Systeme lässt sich außerdem analytisch nicht abbilden. Dieser Beitrag stellt einen simulationsbasierten Ansatz vor, welcher für die vorhandenen Randbedingungen anforderungsgerechte und dennoch kostengünstige Lösungsalternativen für das Transportsystem liefert.
