The success of the satellite subsystems engineering depends on the optimal design, modeling, simulation, and validation of the deliverables of the conceptual and mission design objectives. This paper presents the operational times analysis of the thermal control subsystem onboard a 97-kg microsatellite in low-Earth orbit during an eclipse period. Power-storing, communication downlink and uplink, payload processing, and thermal control overpower modes were implemented for a communication mission under worst-case orbital patterns. An embedded digital temperature and lighting controller circuitry was designed and practically validated to effect a desired logic. For an average eclipse period of 34.4 mins, the operational times of the thermal subsystem at altitudes of 400 km, 500 km, and 600 km are 38.6 mins, 38.1 mins, and 37.7 mins respectively. Moreover, the thermal control subsystem simulation reveals that reducing the operational times of non-thermal control subsystems during the eclipse period by 50 % can result in an operational factor of safety of over 1.5. At least 10 dB data link transmission margin can be achieved. The reported findings show that the operational times of spacecraft subsystems overpower modes can be reconfigured in orbit to reliably sustain the operating conditions of the capability-based satellite components for ubiquitous communication.

Analysis of Wireless Backhaul Networks Based on Aerial Platform Technology for 6G Systems

In this paper, an investigation into the topology structure design and performance analysis the distributed satellite cluster network (DSCN) in space information networks (SINs) at geosynchronous orbit (GEO) is presented. Use of concepts of domains, strong/weak link, hubs, small world, and degree realizability by employing Network Science Theory is examined for a fifteen-node DSCN. The impacts of the concepts are analyzed. The simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed concepts and show that the hybrid architecture realizes a stunning trade-off between the network efficiency and robustness.

Topology structure design and performance analysis on distributed satellite cluster networks

In recent years, with the development of fast space response systems represented by image processing and specific target detection, the higher requirements for space-based on-orbit services have been placed. The space-based on-orbit service has the advantages of performing communication and calculations at the data source side, which can reduce the delay of satellite service data return, thereby responding quickly to emergencies. However, the high dynamic topology of satellite network and the sudden change of node access traffic will affect the on-orbit quality of service significantly. In order to approach this challenge, this paper proposes a space-based service architecture. Based on the real-time traffic data of the satellite network, the service is migrated according to the change of upstream and downstream traffic. In this paper, a migration model is constructed based on the network and mission characteristics of the space-based edge cloud. This migration model can balance the time delay dynamically and optimize the energy consumption by matching the migration node with the time delay and energy consumption. The simulation results show that the proposed service migration strategy can satisfy the customized requirements of different services, while reducing the service delay and packet loss rate under the network traffic congestion, so that the overall benefit of satellite network is improved.

Space Edge Cloud Enabling Service Migration for On-Orbit Service

In this paper, we design a novel architecture of distributed satellite cluster network (DSCN). In order to achieve a good trade-off between the energy consumption and the total capacity, we investigate the joint downlink power and time-slot allocation problem, taking into account the limitation of resource, collaborative coverage of multi-satellite, and dynamism, which is proved to be a Pareto optimization and NP-hard problem. Different from the existing 1-D multi-objective optimization algorithm (1D-MOA) based on meta-heuristics, such as immune clonal algorithm (ICA), we propose an improved 2-D dynamic immune clonal algorithm (TDICA) to search the solution space for approaching the Pareto front. From simulation results, several important concluding remarks are obtained as follows: 1) the proposed TDICA can obtain more non-dominated solutions in each iteration with better accuracy than existing algorithms; 2) with inter-satellite resource optimization, the total capacity can be improved; 3) compared with 1D-MOAs, the 2D-MOA can save more energy and achieve higher total capacity; d) MOAs can be transferred into multiple single-objective optimization algorithms (SOAs) under certain conditions.

Joint Downlink Power and Time-Slot Allocation for Distributed Satellite Cluster Network Based on Pareto Optimization

The high altitude platform (HAP) is an important communication platform for cloud storage in the next generation internet. The Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) techniques provide the significant diversity and multiplexing gain, which can improve the network performance effectively. In this paper, a virtual MIMO model is proposed by networking the constellation of interconnected HAPs. In a Rician fading, the diversity reception is investigated. The Probability density function (PDF) and cumulative distribution function (CDF) of the received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) are derived. In addition, the CDFs of the system capacity and the system capacity with various SNR and Rician factors for different network configurations are analyzed. The simulation results validate the effectiveness of the performance analysis.
