Copper (Cu), an indispensable trace element within the human body, serving as an intrinsic constituent of numerous natural enzymes, carrying out vital biological functions. Furthermore, nanomaterials exhibiting enzyme‐mimicking properties, commonly known as nanozymes, possess distinct advantages over their natural enzyme counterparts, including cost‐effectiveness, enhanced stability, and adjustable performance. These advantageous attributes have captivated the attention of researchers, inspiring them to devise various Cu‐based nanomaterials, such as copper oxide, Cu metal‐organic framework, and CuS, and explore their potential in enzymatic catalysis. This comprehensive review encapsulates the most recent advancements in Cu‐based nanozymes, illuminating their applications in the realm of biochemistry. Initially, it is delved into the emulation of typical enzyme types achieved by Cu‐based nanomaterials. Subsequently, the latest breakthroughs concerning Cu‐based nanozymes in biochemical sensing, bacterial inhibition, cancer therapy, and neurodegenerative diseases treatment is discussed. Within this segment, it is also explored the modulation of Cu‐based nanozyme activity. Finally, a visionary outlook for the future development of Cu‐based nanozymes is presented.

The computational quantum mechanical investigation of the functionalized boron nitride nanocage as the smart carriers for favipiravir drug delivery: a DFT and QTAIM analysis

Photodynamic therapy (PDT), as a light irradiation inducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation for cancer treatment, offers facile and promising solutions with respect to spatiotemporal control ROS generation, minimizes the systemic toxicity and side effect for highly precise tumor therapy. However, the PDT efficiency is often severely compromised by the complex tumor microenvironment (TME), such as the hypoxic condition and overexpressed antioxidants. Here, for the first time, a bimetallic ion modified metal organic framework nanozyme (Zr4+ -MOF-Ru3+ /Pt4+ -Ce6@HA, ZMRPC@HA) is designed. ZMRPC@HA with catalase (CAT) and glutathione oxidase (GSHOx) mimetic activities, can efficiently regulate TME by generation of O2 and deplete the GSH synergistically for enhancing the long-term PDT efficacy towards the hypoxic tumor. The in vitro cell inhibition and in vivo on tumor xenograft evaluations demonstrate the PDT strategy by using ZMRPC@HA can successfully inhibit the differentiation and proliferation of tumor cells under a 660 nm laser irradiation in deep tissues. These findings open a new avenue for design of multi-metallic ions functionalized MOF-based nanozymes with multi-enzyme mimetic activities towards the antitumor and various other biological applications. Bimetallic Ions Functionalized Metal-Organic-Framework Nanozyme for Tumor Microenvironment Regulating and Enhanced Photodynamic Therapy for Hypoxic Tumor.

Noble metal nanozymes hold promise in cancer therapy due to adjustable enzyme-like activities, unique physicochemical properties, etc. But catalytic activities of monometallic nanozyme are confined. In this study, 2D titanium carbide (Ti3 C2 Tx )-supported RhRu alloy nanoclusters (RhRu/Ti3 C2 Tx ) are prepared by a hydrothermal method and utilized for synergistic therapy of chemodynamic therapy (CDT), photodynamic therapy (PDT), and photothermal therapy (PTT) on osteosarcoma. The nanoclusters are small in size (3.6 nm), uniform in distribution, and have excellent catalase (CAT) and peroxidase (POD)-like activities. Density functional theory calculations show that there is a significant electron transfer interaction between RhRu and Ti3 C2 Tx , which has strong adsorption to H2 O2 and is beneficial to enhance the enzyme-like activity. Furthermore, RhRu/Ti3 C2 Tx nanozyme acts as both PTT agent for converting light into heat, and photosensitizer for catalyzing O2 to 1 O2 . With the NIR-reinforced POD- and CAT-like activity, excellent photothermal and photodynamic performance, the synergistic CDT/PDT/PTT effect of RhRu/Ti3 C2 Tx on osteosarcoma is verified by in vitro and in vivo experiments. This study is expected to provide a new research direction for the treatment of osteosarcoma and other tumors.
