Formaldehyde induces hyperphosphorylation and polymerization of Tau protein both in vitro and in vivo
TL;DR: Investigation of formaldehyde-induced Tau hyperphosphorylation may provide novel insights into mechanisms underlying tauopathies, and formaldehyde, which may cause age-related memory loss, can act as a factor triggering Tau hyper phosphorylation via GSK-3β catalysis and induces polymerization of Tau.

A synthetic lipopeptide targeting top-priority multidrug-resistant Gram-negative pathogens
Kade D. Roberts,Yan Zhu,Abul Kalam Azad,Mei-Ling Han,Jiping Wang,Lynn Wang,Heidi H. Yu,Andrew S. Horne,J A Pinson,David Rudd,Nicolas H. Voelcker,Nitin A. Patil,Jinxin Zhao,Xukai Jiang,Jing Lu,Ke Chen,Olga Lomovskaya,Scott J. Hecker,Philip E. Thompson,Roger L. Nation,Michael N. Dudley,David C. Griffith,Tony Velkov,Jian Li +23 more
TL;DR: In this article , the authors employ chemical biology to systematically optimize multiple non-conserved positions in the polymyxin scaffold, and successfully disconnect the therapeutic efficacy from the toxicity to develop a new synthetic lipopeptide.
Alzheimer's disease and methanol toxicity (part 1): chronic methanol feeding led to memory impairments and tau hyperphosphorylation in mice.
Meifeng Yang,Jing Lu,Junye Miao,Joshua D. Rizak,Jianzhen Yang,Rongwei Zhai,Jun Zhou,Jia-Gui Qu,Jianhong Wang,Shangchuan Yang,Yuanye Ma,Xintian Hu,Rongqiao He +12 more
TL;DR: The in vitro experiments suggested that formaldehyde was most likely the detrimental component of methanol toxicity related to hippocampal tau phosphorylation and the subsequent impaired memory in the mice, adding to a growing body of evidence that links formaldehyde to AD pathology.

The herbal compound geniposide rescues formaldehyde-induced apoptosis in N2a neuroblastoma cells.
Jin Yan Chen,Meng Ru Sun,Xing Hua Wang,Jing Lu,Yan Wei,Yan Tan,Ying Liu,Jürgen Götz,Rongqiao He,Qian Hua +9 more
TL;DR: The data demonstrate that TLJN can rescue neuronal damage caused by FA and that its main ingredient GP has a major role in this efficacy, and presents purified GP as a drug or lead compound for the treatment of AD.
Dysregulation and Dislocation of SFPQ Disturbed DNA Organization in Alzheimer's Disease and Frontotemporal Dementia
Jing Lu,Runzhe Shu,Yan Zhu +2 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that dysregulation and dislocation of SFPQ and subsequent DNA disorganization might be a novel pathway in the progression of AD and FTD.
