Starting from the capabilities of controllers developed using the fuzzy logic on modeling and equalization of nonlinearities, just as the mathematical model of a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) is nonlinear, this article presents a control system of a PMSM based on three neuro-fuzzy controllers ensuring the continuous adjustment of the tuning parameters K p and K i of the PI-type speed controller. When there is a high-dynamics PMSM rotor speed reference and a significant variation of the load torque, using a PI controller with fixed tuning parameters, even when using a Particle Swarm optimization (PSO) technique will result in inferior results as opposed to the case when the tuning parameters are adaptive. Thus, an observer of the rotor speed and of the load torque is additionally presented in the case of the sensorless control. The first two neuro-fuzzy controllers prove their superiority due to the high-dynamics speed reference, and if there are also significant variations of the load torque, a third neuro-fuzzy controller is required for additional adjustments in order to achieve superior control performances. The validation of the proposed control system is performed by numerical simulations in the Matlab/Simulink environment.

Improved Performance of Sensorless Control for PMSM Based on Neuro-fuzzy Speed Controller

The brushless doubly fed machine (BDFM) drive system based on a fractional unidirectional converter is a promising low-cost variable-speed drive system, which shows great potential in applications of driving fans and pumps. However, the harmonic current generated by a diode rectifier can flow into the machine and the grid under a weak grid, which will cause a 6th-order frequency torque ripple and lead to voltage distortion. A steady equivalent circuit considering the uncontrolled rectifier and the grid impedance is built firstly to study the harmonic distribution characteristics. To eliminate the influence of harmonic currents, the harmonic equivalent impedance of the machine system should be regulated to change the harmonic distribution characteristics. This paper improves the conventional control method through adding a harmonic control loop to prevent harmonic currents from being injected into the machine or the grid, which is then applied in the fundamental synchronous frame. Two indirect parameters are selected to realize the two control targets. Afterwards, the influence of the control system on the harmonic equivalent impedance of the machine system under the conventional method and the proposed method are compared. Finally, experimental results obtained from a 30 kW BDFM prototype verify the proposed method.

Bidirectional Harmonic Current Control of Brushless Doubly Fed Motor Drive System Based on a Fractional Unidirectional Converter Under a Weak Grid

In this paper the rotational characteristics of the magnetic field in Brushless Double Fed Induction Machines (BDFIM) iron circuit is studied. The BDFIM has a complex magnetic field pattern which make its iron loss prediction difficult. This is due to the fact that BDFIM has two stator windings with different pole numbers which supply at different frequencies. In addition, the stator magnetic field contains excessive higher order field harmonics that make the conventional iron loss formulations not applicable to its iron loss predictions. A new iron loss formulation is proposed in this paper for the BDFIM that takes the rotational field and harmonic effects into account in the iron loss prediction. The proposed formulation is then verified using experimental tests on a prototype BDFIM with rotor open winding.

The brushless doubly-fed generator (BDFG) is a kind of novel machine, which can be regarded as a combination of conventional synchronous and asynchronous motors. Due to its absence of brush and slip rings, BDFG has potential in hydropower generation. The paper first evaluates the feasibility of BDFG for hydropower generation system and verify the proposed control strategy, based on a practical application in Daliang hydropower station.

The invention relates to a brushless doubly-fed motor brake control method and system. The method comprises steps that when a brushless doubly-fed motor enters a brake mode, the rotational speed of the brushless doubly-fed motor, and phase current values of a power winding and a control winding are collected; according to the rotational speed of the brushless doubly-fed motor, the current values of the power winding and the control winding, and the preset brake time, a switching state of a switch tube in an inverter is controlled during braking, the rotational speed of the brushless doubly-fedmotor is further controlled, and the brushless doubly-fed motor is braked; a portion of energy generated by the brushless doubly-fed motor during braking is transferred through the control winding toa DC bus and further flows to a storage battery through a bidirectional DC-DC converter. The method is advantaged in that through collecting the rotational speed of the brushless doubly-fed motor andthe current values of the power winding and the control winding and controlling the switching state of the switch tube in the inverter, closed loop control is performed, and flexible brake is achieved.
