Copper-mediated coupling reactions and their applications in natural products and designed biomolecules synthesis.

Copper-catalyzed Ullmann condensations are key reactions for the formation of carbon-heteroatom and carbon-carbon bonds in organic synthesis. These reactions can lead to structural moieties that are prevalent in building blocks of active molecules in the life sciences and in many material precursors. An increasing number of publications have appeared concerning Ullmann-type intermolecular reactions for the coupling of aryl and vinyl halides with N, O, and C nucleophiles, and this Minireview highlights recent and major developments in this topic since 2004.

Iron Catalysis in Organic Synthesis

The preparation, structure, and chemistry of hypervalent iodine compounds are reviewed with emphasis on their synthetic application. Compounds of iodine possess reactivity similar to that of transition metals, but have the advantage of environmental sustainability and efficient utilization of natural resources. These compounds are widely used in organic synthesis as selective oxidants and environmentally friendly reagents. Synthetic uses of hypervalent iodine reagents in halogenation reactions, various oxidations, rearrangements, aminations, C–C bond-forming reactions, and transition metal-catalyzed reactions are summarized and discussed. Recent discovery of hypervalent catalytic systems and recyclable reagents, and the development of new enantioselective reactions using chiral hypervalent iodine compounds represent a particularly important achievement in the field of hypervalent iodine chemistry. An efficient and straightforward copper-catalyzed method allowing vinylation of N-nucleophiles with various substituted ( £ )-vinyl bromides under palladium-free and ligand-free conditions has taken a high yield (up to 95%). The invention discloses a preparation method for a substituted semicarbazide compound. The preparation method comprises the following specific steps: in the presence of air, with an azobenzene compound and amide compounds as reactants as well as iodide, acyl chloride and an oxidant as a catalytic system, preparing the substituted semicarbazide compound by hydroacylation reaction. According to the method, materials are stable, cheap and easy to obtain, solvent dosage is very small, a great deal of strong acid and alkali solvents are not needed, three-waste emission is avoided, and green chemical requirements are satisfied.
