Four new rare-earth compounds, [Eu(NDC)1.5(DMF)2] (1), [Nd2(NDC)3(DMF)4]·H2O (2), [La2(NDC)3(DMF)4]·0.5H2O (3), and [Eu(BTC)(H2O)] (4), where NDC = 1,4-naphthalenedicarboxylate, BTC = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate, and DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide, have been synthesized through preheating and cooling-down crystallization. Compounds 1−3 possess similar 2D structures, in which the NDC ligands link MIII (M = La, Nd, and Eu) ions of two adjacent double chains constructed by NDC ligands and dinuclear MIII building units. In compound 4, the EuIII ion is seven-coordinated by O atoms from six BTC ligands and one terminal water molecule in a distorted pentagonal-bipyramidal coordination environment. If the BTC ligand and the EuIII ion are regarded as six-connected nodes, respectively, the structure of compound 4 can be well described as a 3D six-connected net. A series of interesting Co(II)−H2tbip coordination polymers incorporating different auxiliary ligands, {[Co(tbip)(bipy)(H2O)3]·0.5(bipy)·H2O}n (1), [Co(tbip)(bipy)]n (2), {[Co3(tbip)3(dpe)3]·0.5(dpe)·3H2O}n (3), [Co2(tbip)2(dpe)(H2O)]n (4), [Co2(tbip)2(bpa)(H2O)]n (5), and {[Co2(tbip)2(bpa)2]·2.5H2O}n (6) (H2tbip = 5-tert-butyl isophthalic acid; bipy = 4,4′-bipyridine; dpe = 1,2-di (4-pyridyl)ethylene; bpa = 1,2-bi(4-pyridyl)ethane) were synthesized. X-ray structural analyses of 1−6 reveal a diverse range of structures, ranging from 1D (1) to 2D (2, 6) to 3D (3, 4, 5). Complex 1 shows 1D zigzag bipy-bridged polymeric chains with the terminal tbip ligands as pendants, which are extended to a 3D hydrogen-bonded supramolecular framework involving 1D open channels which encapsulate guest bipy molecules. Self-Assembly of a Series of Cobalt(II) Coordination Polymers Constructed from H2tbip and Dipyridyl-Based Ligands

Five new Mn(II) metal–organic coordination polymers, [Mn(tbip)(bipy)]n (1), {[Mn(tbip)(dpe)]·1.5H2O}n (2), [Mn(tbip)(bpa)]n (3), [Mn(mip)(bpa)]n (4) and {[Mn3(mip)2(Hmip)2(bpp)2(H2O)2]·2H2O}n (5), were prepared through hydrothermal reactions of Mn(II) acetate with H2tbip (H2tbip = 5-tert-butyl isophthalic acid) or H2mip (H2mip = 5-methylisophthalic acid) in the presence of different dipyridyl co-ligands (bipy = 4,4′-bipyridine, dpe = 1,2-bi(4-pyridyl)ethene, bpa = 1,2-bi(4-pyridyl)ethane and bpp = 1,3-di(4-pyridyl)propane). All these compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy and X-ray single-crystal diffraction. The structures of 1 and 2 are constructed of [Mn2(tbip)2]n layers, which consist of alternate left- and right-handed helical chains, and further pillared by bipy or dpe ligands into a 3D porous framework. Interestingly, there are two different sizes of pores in 1 and 2. From the topology point of view, both complexes 1 and 2 exhibit the rare rob network based on the dimeric [Mn(COO)]2 subunits as the 6-connected nodes. The ribbon-like chains having 8- and 16-membered rings in 3 and 4 result from dimeric Mn(II) units bridged by H2tbip or H2mip ligands, which are connected by the flexible dpa into 2D open layers. Complex 5 contains rare isophthalato-bridged trimanganese clusters as building units, which are further linked by mip anions to form a one-dimensional ladder-like chain with less common unidentate coordinated bpp decorated as pendants. The thermal stabilities and X-ray powder diffraction studies indicate that the microporous framework of 2 can keep stable even after the loss of guest water molecules. In addition, dominant antiferromagnetic coupling was observed in compounds 1–3 and 5.

Synthesis, structures and properties of Mn(II) coordination frameworks based on R-isophthalate (R = –CH3 or –C(CH3)3) and various dipyridyl-type co-ligands

Two novel homochiral lanthanide−silver heterometallic coordination polymers LnAg(OAc)(IN)3 [Ln = Nd (1), Eu (2), HIN = isonicotinic acid, HOAc = acetic acid] have been prepared under hydrothermal conditions, which were characterized by elemental analysis, infrared, thermogravimetric analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Both complexes are isostructural and crystallize in a hexagonal system, chiral space group P6122. Both polymers are constructed from infinite right-handed homochiral helical chains with Ln−O−Ag connectivity, representing the first examples of homochiral lanthanide−transition metal heterometallic coordination polymers with a 3D coordination framework based on spontaneous resolution. Furthermore, the luminescent properties of 2 were studied.

Spontaneously Resolved Homochiral 3D Lanthanide−Silver Heterometallic Coordination Framework with Extended Helical Ln−O−Ag Subunits

Three new 3d-4f heterometallic coordination polymers, [Ln 2 (H 2 O) 4 M 2 (H 2 O) 2 (QA) 5 ].nH 2 O (H 2 QA = quinolinic acid; Ln = Gd, M = Ni, n = 7 (1); Ln = Gd, M = Co, n = 6.5 (2); Ln = Dy, M = Co, n = 6.5 (3)), have been synthesized through hydrothermal pretreatment and cooling-down crystallization. These compounds possess the isostructural 3D frameworks with 1 D chairlike channels along the c axis, which are occupied by noncoordinating water molecules. Crystal data: for 1, C 3 5 H 4 1 Gd 2 Ni 2 N 5 O 3 3 , orthorhombic, space group Pna2 1 , with a = 28.567(6) A, b = 14.498(3) A, c = 12.250(2) A, and Z= 4; for 2, C 3 5 H 4 0 Gd 2 Co 2 N 5 O 3 2 . 5 , orthorhombic, space group Pna2 1 , with a = 28.843(3) A, b = 14.4325(13) A, c = 12.2275(9) A, and Z = 4; for 3, C 3 5 H 4 0 Dy 2 Co 2 N 5 O 3 2 . 5 , orthorhombic, space group Pna2 1 , with a = 28.8471(14) A, b = 14.4534(10) A, c = 12.2520(7) A, and Z = 4. The magnetic behaviors for the three compounds have been investigated.
