Zerovalent copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) (diameter, 26.5 ± 9 nm) capped with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) were synthesized in supercritical water at 400 °C and 30 MPa with a continuous flow reactor. The PVP-capped CuNPs were dispersed in distilled water, methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol, 2-propanol, butanol, and their mixed solvents to study their long-term stability. Temporal variation of UV–vis spectra and surface plasmon resonance were measured and showed that ethanol, the propanols, and butanol solvents provided varying degrees of oxidative protection for Cu0. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy showed that PVP adsorbed onto the surface of the CuNPs with a pyrrolidone ring of PVP even if the CuNPs were oxidized. Intrinsic viscosities of PVP were higher for solvents that provided antioxidation protection than those that give oxidized CuNPs. Antioxidation Properties and Surface Interactions of Polyvinylpyrrolidone-Capped Zerovalent Copper Nanoparticles Synthesized in Supercritical Water.

Silver nanoparticles with small particle size distribution and good dispersibility were synthesized through a facile chemical reduction method. In the progress, AgNO3 was used as the precursor, polyacrylic acid and ethanol amine were introduced as the protective agent, hydrazine hydrate was chosen as the reduce agent. Diameter of the resulted monodisperse silver nanoparticles is between 50 and 70 nm. Then, the obtained silver nanoparticles were well dispersed in the oil-based ink, which can be printed on a flexible polyimide substrate to form the conductive printed circuit board through following low temperature annealing treatment. A lowest electricity resistivity of 5.6 × 10−8 Ω m is obtained which is only 3.5× higher than that of bulk silver.

Facile synthesis of low temperature sintering Ag nanopaticles for printed flexible electronics

Soft electronics that can simultaneously offer electronic functions and the capability to be deformed into arbitrary shapes are becoming increasingly important for wearable and bio-implanted applications. The past decade has witnessed tremendous progress in this field with a myriad of achievements in the preparation of soft electronic conductors, semiconductors, and dielectrics. Among these materials, copper-based soft electronic materials have attracted considerable attention for their use in flexible or stretchable electrodes or interconnecting circuits due to their low cost and abundance with excellent optical, electrical and mechanical properties. In this review, we summarize the recent progress on these materials with the detailed discussions of the synthesis of copper nanomaterials, approaches for their assemblies, strategies to resist the ambient corrosion, and their applications in various fields including flexible electrodes, sensors, and other soft devices. We conclude our discussions with perspectives on the remaining challenges to make copper soft conductors available for more widespread applications.

Copper nanomaterials and assemblies for soft electronics

Copper nanocrystals are often grown with the help of alkylamine capping agents, which direct the nanocrystal shape. However, the role of these molecules is still unclear. We characterized the assembly of aqueous tetradecylamine (TDA) around a Cu nanocrystal and found that TDA exhibits a temperature-dependent bilayer structure. The bilayer involves an inner layer, in which TDA binds to Cu via the amine group and tends to orient the alkyl tail perpendicular to the surface, and an outer layer whose structure depends on temperature. At low temperatures, alkylamines in the inner layer form bundles with no apparent relation to the crystal facets. Alkylamines in the outer layer tend to orient their long axes perpendicular to the Cu surfaces, with interdigitation into the inner layer. At high temperatures, alkylamines in the inner layer lose their bundle structure, and outer-layer alkylamines tend to orient themselves tangential to the Cu surfaces, forming a "web" above inner-layer TDA. TDA exhibits a rapid interlayer exchange at typical synthesis temperatures, consistent with experiment. The variety in the assemblies seen here and in other studies of alkanethiols around gold nanocrystals indicates a richness in the assemblies that can be achieved by modulating the interaction between the strongly binding end group and the surface.

Self-Assembly of a Linear Alkylamine Bilayer around a Cu Nanocrystal: Molecular Dynamics.

Magnetic nanomaterials are a new kind of nanomaterials with great potential application value. Recently, there have been many reports about the combination of magnetic nanomaterials and agricultural residue detection technology to establish a new detection method. Due to the special super paramagnetic, the large number of surface active sites, easy separation and recovery, the Fe3O4 magnetic nanocomposite material is commonly used in complex sample pretreatment on extraction and enrichment of the target compounds. By combining with the target substance in complex sample matrix and under the action of external magnetic field, the material can quickly, simply and efficiently enrich and extract trace substances in the sample. This paper mainly introduces the application of Fe3O4-based magnetic nanocomposites in the detection of pesticides and the main preparation methods of Fe3O4-based magnetic nanocomposites, including coprecipitation, microemulsion, photothermal chemistry and ultrasonic decomposition, hydrothermal reaction and sol-gel method.

Synthesis of Fe 3 O 4 -based Magnetic Nanocomposites and Application in Pesticide Residue Detection

Synthesizing Cu nanocrystals with tunable sizes in the sub-100 nm regime and good uniformity is essential for their applications in microelectronics. In this paper, we demonstrate a facile and scalable synthetic route to uniform Cu nanocrystals with tunable sizes in the range of 20–100 nm based on an ethylene glycol (EG)-assisted synthetic method with appropriate alkylamine and fatty acid as surfactant and co-surfactant, respectively. In this approach, the size of Cu nanocrystals could be readily controlled by varying alkyl chain length of alkylamine, fatty acid, or both. We also demonstrate that these Cu nanocrystals can be successfully applied to the fabrication of solution-processed electrodes for organic field-effect transistors with reasonably high hole mobility.
