This paper proposes a new digital signal processing DSP-based phase frequency controlled digital phase locked loop. Here, a very simplistic form of fuzzy logic controller with the help of carrier phase and frequency error as input data is used to provide an acquisition aid. A frequency discriminator is employed to generate frequency error, and phase detector output is taken for phase error. This addition of an acquisition aid helps the loop to achieve the minimum acquisition time and maximum noise rejection simultaneously. An additional phase control in the digitally controlled oscillator makes the loop perform even better towards this goal. The implementation of the proposed loop is carried out on a reconfigurable logic platform using System Generator®;, a tool from Xilinx®; used to design real-time DSP application. A significant improvement of time domain characteristics are observed as well as the performance in presence of additive white Gaussian noise is demonstrated in terms of the reduction in steady-state phase jitter and enhancement in output signal to noise ratio in the proposed loop. A novel DSP-based PFC-DPLL with fuzzy controlled acquisition aid to improve acquisition performance and noise immunity

SUMMARY
This work is aimed at researching and analyzing the performance of carrier recovery (CR) with two transmit antennas on a multicarrier digital TV system operating in time-selective fading channel. It is shown in the paper that CR can correct the performance degradation caused by Doppler effect when the terminal is receiving high resolution digital TV signals in a fast moving environment. To have the ability to cover a large frequency range, the CR system should do a frequency sweep first. Then the coarse and fine frequency offset estimation is introduced. Both the theoretical and simulated results give valuable insight that the CR is able to perform well with a certain amount of channel fading. The phase and noise effect on the CR performance is also studied. The CR system and the working procedure concerning CR and timing recovery are also researched to give a full solution on synchronization. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Novel carrier recovery scheme in multicarrier digital TV system

Although the quadrature mixing radio front-end offers an attractive way to perform frequency translation, its image-rejection capability is severely affected by the gain and phase imbalances (I/Q imbalances) between its two analog signal paths. Digital signal processing techniques based on the preamble or training signals have widely been proposed to compensate for these mixer imperfections. However, these methods are not suitable for the communication systems without the specified training signals. In this paper, we propose a LS (Least Square) estimation algorithm which can be utilized in any quadrature modulation communication system. The algorithm is based on the baseband signal pre-correction methodology, and the QMC (qudrature modulation correction) parameters can be estimated on line or offline depending on the working mode. The proposed algorithm has been thoroughly tested in the RF transceiver system. The test result shows that the ACLR performance outperforms the WCDMA standard with about 6dB margin with single carrier and at least 5dB margin with four carriers and can eliminate the QM distortion effectively.

A LS estimation algorithm on quadrature modulation correction scheme for LTE/WCDMA RF transceiver

After the VDSL (Very High-bit-rate Digital Subscriber Line) system enters into fast mode, not all the tones have the same margin. In order to cope with the crosstalk noise, Bit Swap is utilized to swap the tone pairs: the one has a high margin while the other one has a relatively low margin. Although the Bit Swap has been proposed before, there is no Bit Swap established on EOC(Embedded Operational Channel) and the scheme proposes coarse and fine SNR margin tuning algorithm. The paper presents the architecture and process of Bit Swap based on EOC and also implements the algorithm to adjust the margin for tones calculated to be swapped. After thoroughly tested, the test results show that the proposed scheme functions well. Compared with the scheme without Bit Swap, it greatly improves the performance against crosstalk noise and can reduce the RS errors to zero.
