NbMoSiC gradient films were successfully deposited on 316L stainless steel by adjusting sputtering power of carbon target, and their microstructure, mechanical and electrochemical properties were comprehensively investigated through SEM, XRD, XPS, Raman, nanoindenter and electrochemical workstation. The results show that the NbMoSiC gradient films exhibit a carbon composition gradient across the thickness direction, which impedes the continuous columnar growth and results in a compact and flawless microstructure. The films also possess multiphase structures of Nb2C, MoSi2, silicon and amorphous carbon, leading to a significant improvement in hardness value and elastoplasticity. Furthermore, the electrochemical experiments demonstrated a substantial reduction in the corrosion current density for the NbMoSiC gradient films (3.008 × 10−8 A/cm2) compared to bare 316L substrate (3.687 × 10−7 A/cm2) in artificial seawater medium. The charge transfer resistance of the gradient films (3.482 × 106 Ω cm2) has increased by an order of magnitude, indicating an enhanced inhibition effect on the ion transport during the corrosion reaction. The improved corrosion resistance of 316L stainless steel is mainly attributed to strong passivation ability and the dense microstructure formed by the carbon composition gradient structure. 

Mechanical and electrochemical properties of NbMoSiC gradient films deposited by adjusting sputtering power of carbon target

Three kinds of FeCrAlSi coatings with different Si contents were prepared by the magnetron sputtering method, and the LBE corrosion resistance was investigated at 500 °C, 550 °C, and 600 °C for 1000 h. The results showed that the corroded coatings present a shiny surface (circle morphology). The increase of Si content promotes the thinning of the total oxide scale and thickening of the Al2O3 layer. The Si-rich layer appeared between the FeAl2O4 and the Fe(Cr,Al)2O4 spinel layers. The corrosion mechanism is discussed in detail, and a corrosion model based on the TEM analysis of the coatings corroded at 600 °C is proposed. 

Improved LBE corrosion resistance of the FeCrAl coating by the addition of trace Si element

Cathodic arc evaporated Ti1-xAlxN coatings were deposited on a Nimonic c-263 superalloy and tested under low temperature hot corrosion conditions. Treated with a MgSO4/Na2SO4 salt-mixture, all samples were annealed at 700 °C in a 3000 ppm(volume) SOx-rich atmosphere for 1, 5, 15 and 30 h. A significantly reduced corrosion severity was exhibited by all Ti1-xAlxN variants over the uncoated NiCrCo alloy. A synergistic fluxing mechanism was found to be the dominant factor for the coating breakdown. Depending on the relative Al-to-Ti content on the Ti1-xAlxN sublattice, differences in the coatings' corrosion and scaling behavior were observed. 

Low-temperature hot corrosion of arc evaporated Ti1−xAlxN on Ni-Cr-Co based superalloys

Circulating cooling water consumes a large amount of water in thermal power plant, and there are some problems such as scaling and corrosion in the system. This study presents a novel circulating cooling water treatment process based on microbes. The mechanism and influencing factors of microbial treatment process of circulating cooling water is studied. Water from circulating cooling system of a 300 MW thermal power unit was used, dynamic simulation test was carried out and compared between the microbial treatment process and the traditional chemical treatment process. The results showed that nutrient solution dosage on calcium hardness is positive, while the interaction between nutrient solution dosage and aeration rate has negative effect. When ammonia concentration is 10–50 mg/L and aeration rate is 1–3 L, and the minimum calcium hardness is 18.3 mmol/L. Reducing the concentration of nutrient solution and increasing the aeration rate are beneficial to slow down the corrosion of carbon steel and stainless steel. When ammonia concentration is 10–50 mg/L and aeration rate is 1–3 L, the minimum corrosion rates are 0.01552 and 0.00110 mm/a, respectively. Compared with traditional chemical treatment process, the microbial treatment process can achieve the scale inhibition and corrosion inhibition target at high concentration ratio, the highest concentration ratio can reach 5.4, and the corrosion rate of carbon steel and stainless steel is low. The green, efficient and environment-friendly microbial treatment process provides a new method for circulating cooling water treatment, which can obtain stable and economical operation of circulating cooling water system under high concentration ratio.

Circulating cooling water treatment of thermal power plant based on microbial treatment process

In this study, CoCrWSi coatings with different Si contents were prepared via high-velocity oxygen fuel spraying, and the effect of Si content on their high-temperature oxidation resistance in air was studied at 900 °C. The microstructures and chemical compositions of oxide scales were characterized through scanning electron microscopy, electron probe microanalysis, and X-ray diffraction. The results revealed that the oxidation resistance of the produced CoCrWSi coatings gradually increased with increasing Si content. Moreover, the beneficial effects of Si content on the oxidation resistance were discussed in terms of Si depletion. The addition of Si prevented the outward diffusion of Cr atoms, and inhibited internal oxidation, while the depth of internal oxidation varied significantly with the oxidation time.

Although the industrial circulating cooling water system can save a lot of water resources, there will be serious scaling and corrosion during operation. Based on the environmental friendliness of microbial corrosion inhibition technology, this work evaluated the influence of microbial environmental indicators on the corrosion rate of carbon steel in circulating cooling water system by full factor experimental design. The results showed that under 10-50 mg/L ammonia nitrogen, 1-3 L/min aeration fluxes, the corrosion rate getting lower with the increase of ammonia nitrogen concentration and the decrease of aeration rate, while the microbial content had little effect on the corrosion rate.
