Enhancing catalytic performance of palladium in gold and palladium alloy nanoparticles for organic synthesis reactions through visible light irradiation at ambient temperatures.
Sarina Sarina,Huaiyong Zhu,Esa Jaatinen,Qi Xiao,Hongwei Liu,Jianfeng Jia,Chao Chen,Jian Zhao +7 more
TL;DR: It is believed that the conduction electrons of the NPs gain the light absorbed energy producing energetic electrons at the surface Pd sites, which enhances the sites' intrinsic catalytic ability.

Viable Photocatalysts under Solar-Spectrum Irradiation: Nonplasmonic Metal Nanoparticles
Sarina Sarina,Huaiyong Zhu,Qi Xiao,Esa Jaatinen,Jianfeng Jia,Yiming Huang,Zhanfeng Zheng,Haishun Wu +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, irradiation with light can significantly enhance the intrinsic catalytic performance of supported nanoparticles (NPs) at ambient temperatures for several types of reactions, which can also effectively couple thermal and light energy sources to accelerate chemical transformations.

Visible Light-Driven Cross-Coupling Reactions at Lower Temperatures Using a Photocatalyst of Palladium and Gold Alloy Nanoparticles
Qi Xiao,Sarina Sarina,Arixin Bo,Jianfeng Jia,Hongwei Liu,Dennis P. Arnold,Yiming Huang,Haishun Wu,Huaiyong Zhu +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors report the discovery of highly efficient and green photocatalytic processes by which cross-coupling reactions, including Sonogashira, Stille, Hiyama, Ullmann, and Buchwald-Hartwig reactions, can be driven with visible light at temperatures slightly above room temperature using alloy nanoparticles of gold and Pd on zirconium oxide, thus achieving high yields.

Facile synthesis of PdO-doped Co3O4 nanoparticles as an efficient bifunctional oxygen electrocatalyst
Tianjun Hu,Ying Wang,Lina Zhang,Tao Tang,He Xiao,Wenwen Chen,Man Zhao,Jianfeng Jia,Huaiyong Zhu +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a highly active multifunctional catalyst heterostructure PdO-doped Co3O4 (PdCo-300) nanoparticles with closely mutually connected interfaces were synthesized by a convenient strategy.

Selective oxidation of aliphatic alcohols using molecular oxygen at ambient temperature : Mixed-valence vanadium oxide photocatalysts
Sifani Zavahir,Qi Xiao,Sarina Sarina,Jian Zhao,Steven E. Bottle,Mark Norman Wellard,Jianfeng Jia,Liqiang Jing,Yiming Huang,James P. Blinco,Haishun Wu,Huaiyong Zhu +11 more
TL;DR: In this article, a class of photocatalysts, called mixed-valence vanadium oxide particles grafted onto a variety of oxide supports, are reported, enabling alcohol oxidation to selectively produce aldehydes and ketones using O2 as the oxidant.
