This paper presents a new approach for third order quadrature oscillator (QO) realisation. It uses a high pass filter and differentiator connected in a feedback loop. A differential voltage current conveyor transconductance amplifier (DVCCTA) is employed to verify the proposed approach. Two circuit topologies of QO have been proposed. Both the topologies utilise two DVCCTA and three grounded capacitors. In addition, the first topology employs a single resistor while the second makes use of two resistors. The circuits exhibit orthogonal control on frequency and condition of oscillation. The quadrature current outputs are available at high output impedance and voltage outputs are also present. The theoretical proposition has been verified through SPICE simulations using 0.25 μm Taiwan semiconductor manufacturing company (TSMC) complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology parameters. Experimental results are also included which corroborate the theoretical propositions and simulated results.

Approach for third order quadrature oscillator realisation

Two topologies of operational transresistance (OTRA) based third order quadrature oscillators (QO) are proposed in this paper. The proposed oscillators are designed using a combination of lossy and lossless integrators. The proposed topologies can be made fully integrated by implementing the resistors using matched transistors operating in linear region, which also facilitates electronic tuning of oscillation frequency. The nonideality analysis of the circuit is also given and for high frequency applications self-compensation can be used. Workability of the proposed QOs is verified through PSPICE simulations using 0.5 μm AGILENT CMOS process parameters. The total harmonic distortion (THD) for both the QO designs is found to be less than 1%.

OTRA Based Voltage Mode Third Order Quadrature Oscillator

A modified conception of adjustable current conveyor transconductance amplifier (CCTA) and its inter- esting application in simple quadrature oscillator expand- able for direct frequency modulation purposes, employing only four grounded passive elements is presented in this paper. It is quite simple solution for modern communica- tion subsystem components. An electronic adjusting of the oscillation frequency is easily possible and control of con- dition of the oscillation is realized via only one grounded resistor. The characteristic equation, condition of oscilla- tion and major parasitic influences of real active part are discussed. The verification includes PSpice simulation and measurement with the CCTA block formed by commer- cially available active elements.

Current Gain Controlled CCTA and its Application in Quadrature Oscillator and Direct Frequency Modulator

The paper presents a new quadrature oscillator of third order which can provide four quadrature current outputs and two quadrature voltage outputs. The new circuit employs three differential voltage current conveyors and six passive components, most of which are in grounded form. Circuit operation at high frequencies is verified along with nonideality and parasitic study. The circuit enhancement for generation of four phase clock waveforms is also given. The proposed circuit is a novel addition to the oscillator family.

Third-Order Quadrature Oscillator Circuit with Current and Voltage Outputs

Two new quadrature oscillator circuits using operational amplifiers are presented. Outputs of two sinusoidal signals with 90° phase difference are available in each circuit configuration. Both proposed quadrature oscillators are based on third-order characteristic equations. The oscillation conditions and oscillation frequencies of the proposed quadrature oscillators are orthogonally controllable. The circuits are implemented using the widely available operational amplifiers which results in low output impedance and high current drive capability. Experimental results are included.

Quadrature Oscillators Using Operational Amplifiers

A current/voltage-mode third-order quadrature oscillator based on current differencing transconductance amplifiers (CDTAs) is presented in this paper. Outputs of two current-mode and two voltage-mode sinusoids each with 90 phase difference are available in the quadrature oscillator circuit. The oscillation condition and oscillation frequency are independently controllable. The proposed circuit employs only grounded capacitors and is ideal for integration. Simulation results are included to confirm the theoretical analysis.

Electronically tunable third-order quadrature oscillator using CDTAs

This work proposes and simulates a high-power polarization-insensitive InGaAs-based continuous-wave THz emitter. The mesh-like metallic contacts in the suggested structure significantly improve the transmission of the incident optical pump to the active region. The carefully designed metallic features substantially enhance the local bias field near contact edges where the majority of photoexcited carriers are formed. Furthermore, by the contribution of the extended metallic contacts, the photogenerated carriers effectively reach the contacts and lead to 10 times higher THz radiation compared to the structure without extended metallic contacts. The proposed structure generates identical THz photocurrent under different polarization of optical pump. This advantage makes it a great candidate for THz communication, which system’s robustness is crucial to environmental change. The simulation results indicate that under 240 mW unpolarized optical pump power, the optimized structure radiates 561 $\mu$W power at 500 GHz frequency.

One configuration for realizing voltage-mode multifunction filters and another
configuration for realizing current-mode multifunction filters each using two current-feedback amplifiers (CFAs) are presented. The proposed voltage-mode circuit exhibits simultaneously lowpass, bandpass, and highpass filters. The proposed
current-mode circuit also exhibits simultaneously lowpass, bandpass, and highpass filters. The proposed circuits offer the following features: no requirements for component matching conditions, low active and passive sensitivities, employing only
grounded capacitors, and the ability to obtain multi-function filters from the same circuit configuration.
