Randomized trial of radiotherapy versus radiotherapy plus metronidazole for the treatment metastatic cancer to brain A Southwest Oncology Group study
Harmon J. Eyre,Joel D. Ohlsen,Jess Frank,Albert F. LoBuglio,Joseph D. McCracken,T J Weatherall,C M Mansfield +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors randomized patients with metastatic cancer to the brain to receive either radiotherapy 3000 rad/10 fractions (treatment 1) or the same radiotherapy plus metronidazole 6 gm/m2 (treatment 2).

Randomized comparisons of radiotherapy and CCNU versus radiotherapy, CCNU plus procarbazine for the treatment of malignant gliomas following surgery. A Southwest Oncology Group Report.
Harmon J. Eyre,Joseph M. Quagliana,James R. Eltringham,Jess Frank,Robert M. O'Bryan,Bruce McDonalds,Saul E. Rivkin +6 more
TL;DR: Neither the extent of surgical resection nor the tumor grade correlated significantly with the outcome, and the most important prognostic parameter identified was age with younger patients showing higher response rates and longer survival.

Adriamycin and cyclophosphamide versus hydroxyurea in advanced prostatic cancer. A randomized Southwest Oncology Group study.
Ronald L. Stephens,Clarence B. Vaughn,Montague Lane,J. J. Costanzi,Robert M. O'Bryan,Stanley P. Balcerzak,Howard S. Levin,Jess Frank,Charles A. Coltman +8 more
TL;DR: Focusing their efforts on this subset of patients with measurable disease, the authors found the combination AC to have a superior response rate to the single agent, hydroxyurea, which would suggest the need for more active phase II agents in this disease.

Phase II trial of cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, and cisplatin (CAP) versus amsacrine in patients with transitional cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder: a Southwest Oncology Group study.
Muhyi Al-Sarraf,Jess Frank,J. A. Smith,Robert M. O'Bryan,J. J. Costanzi,Ronald L. Stephens,J. Caraveo,E D Crawford +7 more
TL;DR: This study supports the justification for testing phase II agent(s) in previously untreated patients with bladder cancer with systemic chemotherapy, provided adequate crossover to a known active single or combination of agents is built into the design of such a trial.

Combination chemotherapy plus levamisole in the treatment of disseminated malignant melanoma. A Southwest Oncology Group study.
John J. Costanzi,William S. Fletcher,Stanley P. Balcerzak,Sarah A. Taylor,Harmon J. Eyre,Robert M. O'Bryan,Muhyi Al-Sarraf,Jess Frank +7 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that the addition of Levamisole to BHD does not improve response rate and may in certain subsets be detrimental to disease‐free response and survival.
