Influence of Intelligent Transportation Systems on Reduction of the Environmental Negative Impact of Urban Freight Transport Based on Szczecin Example

Article provides a presentation of a prototype monitoring system for the vibrations occurring in vehicles. The mathematical algorithm prepared and programmed enables the analysis and separation of the crucial properties of vibration signals. The application of an automatic algorithm developed and proposed by the author for the recognition of stationary and non-stationary states makes it possible to use the appropriate tools assuming the form of frequency as well as time and frequency transforms. The paper also provides a discussion concerning the concept of a neural classification system which may be applied as a decision-making module in a control system. Preliminary numerical tests have confirmed the system’s functional correctness. The monitoring system is based on the assumption that vibrations can be recorded at any chosen structural point of a vehicle which enables the vibration propagation to be analysed as well as their time, frequency or time and frequency modes to be assessed.

Ride comfort is extremely difficult to determine because of the variations in individual sensitivity to vibration. Vibration can cause a variety of diseases or at least unpleasant feeling states. The impact of this phenomenon is subjective and depends on human perception. The vibration perception depends on values, time and frequency band of the vibration. Exposure to vibration and the human perception are strongly connected with comfort or discomfort feeling on the driver and passengers. For identification the mapping of vibration measuring in multiple points is very useful. Under the studies in question, active experiments were undertaken featuring measurements of vibration accelerations in a vertical direction perpendicular to the horizontal surface of vehicle in selected points located in carbody. The analytical experiment on application of neural networks in the identification of pressure level in tires of a vehicle based on vibration signals was conducted. Based on the results the concept of on-board comfort vibration monitoring system for vehicles was developed.

Objectives: Increase in traffic density in the world results in more and more congestion, air pollution and accidents. Hence Intelligent Transport System (ITS) has been emerged as a solution to various transport related issues. The aim of this research paper is to conduct systematic analysis on ITS. Methods/Statistical Analysis: ITS is defined as the set of applications which are advance and aim to apply intelligent information and communication technologies in order to provide services for transport and traffic management. ITS have combined various technologies such as Data collection, Communication, Data Mining, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Database Management. By combining these information technologies ITS have provided various applications such as Traffic control, Fault detection systems, In-vehicle information and navigation systems and driver assistance systems. Findings: We have considered the most relevant published work from 2008 onward relative to our objective from different popular digital libraries. We have summarized this work into issues in ITS and techniques used to solve them. Application/Improvements: It has been found that by combining various new technologies such as agent based computing, cloud computing, VANETS etc. ITS have become very efficient to solving transport related issues in smart cities.

Intelligent Transport System: A Progressive Review

Liquefied petroleum gas, known as LPG, is used as an alternative fuel for vehicles with a combustion engine. LPG is a mixture of propane, butane and other substances of a small amount and it is obtained as a by-product of being manufactured during the refining of petroleum. The purpose of this article lies in the assessment of LPG as an alternative fuel. The article includes the classification of LPG from the economic and safety point of view. It also assesses liquefied petroleum gas as an alternative fuel in terms of emission production.

Design and development of telematics transport systems represents a new approach to solving transportation problems. Telematics offers large opportunities to strengthen the positive features of transport (availability, mobility), while minimizing its negative impacts (e.g. environmental pollution, energy consumption, congestion, accidents, infrastructure construction costs) without any additional spending on investment.

Using Telematics in Transport

Nowadays we record a large increase of individual automobile transport on roads. This situation results in still increasing intensity of traffic in cities and also outside cities. It leads to congestions and finally to traffic accidents. One of the possibilities of the number of traffic accidents reduce on the chosen part of communication network is implementation of ITS. On first class roads and highways where higher speed is permitted as on roads in cities is important to alert drivers of dangerous situations in advance to provide more time to decision making of drivers and adapt their driving to road conditions. In the paper we will discuss a model that compares two variants of the transport organisation. As a modelling tool we use software Aimsun which allows a microscopic simulation of real traffic conditions on any network.

The Impact of Intelligent Transport Systems on an Accident Rate of the Chosen Part of Road Communication Network in the Slovak Republic

The principal models used in traffic analyses and forecasting in transportation system are reviewed in the paper. Further on, with the perspective of continuing growth of motoring and of the mobility of citizens, a necessity of using ITS solutions as well as of traffic modelling is pointed out to be a consistent approach to the problem of congestion in the cities and agglomerations. An example is given of traffic disturbance leading to obstructions and dangerous incidents at a local site with capacity limitation located within in an intra-node weaving section in Katowice (Upper-Silesian Agglomeration in Poland).

Transportation Systems Modelling as Planning, Organisation and Management for Solutions Created with ITS

The paper presents a review of the current state of ITS implementation in the Upper-Silesian Conurbation in Poland. A methodology for ITS architecture preparing and implementing for the Upper-Silesian Conurbation, necessary for integrated ITS planning and designing and for the conurbation transportation systems development planning, has also been proposed. Special attention was paid to the implementation problems and barriers, both of individual ITS systems as well as of their whole architecture for the Upper-Silesian Conurbation in Poland.

Problems of ITS Architecture Development and ITS Implementation in Upper-Silesian Conurbation in Poland

Currently applied diagnostic systems of technical condition use more and more advanced methods of gathering and processing input data. Many scientific research centres all over the world deal with problems connected with this topic. Up till now no such unified set of guidelines has been constructed which would allow for construction of properly functioning diagnostic system no matter which object is chosen. That is why there is a constant need to test the possibilities of application of existing methods and their modification to match given diagnostic cases. In this article the results of tests conducted with the use of Bayes classifier for diagnostic purposes are presented. The purpose of the tests was diagnosis of technical condition of head gasket in internal combustion engine of a car. The source of information about technical condition was the vibration signal measured in various measurement points. In order to describe the character of changes occurring in vibration signal the measurement in form of entropy was marked for decomposed signal with the use of discrete wavelet transform (DWT).
