In the resource mapping method for data transmission, a time-frequency resource of a slot interval including OFDM symbols is divided into traffic channels and shared among the subscribers, the traffic channel including resource blocks uniformly distributed in the whole transmit frequency band, the resource block including consecutive subcarriers of consecutive received symbols having at least one inserted pilot symbol. The pilot symbols and the channel-encoded and modulated data symbols are processed by time-frequency mapping according to the resource-block-based mapping method to generate received symbols. The receiver separates the received symbols by subscribers according to the resource-block-based mapping method in a frequency domain, and performs iterative channel estimation, demodulation, and decoding by using the pilot and a data reference value after decoding for each traffic channel.

A system and method are described which enable planned evolution and obsolescence of multiuser wireless spectrum. One embodiment of such a system includes one or multiple centralized processors and one or multiple distributed nodes that communicate via wireline or wireless connections. The distributed nodes may share their identification number and other reconfigurable system parameters with the centralized processor. The information about all distributed nodes may be stored in a database that is shared by all centralized processors. The reconfigurable system parameters may comprise power emission, frequency band, modulation/coding scheme. The distributed nodes may be software defined radios such as FPGA, DSP, GPU and/or GPCPU that run algorithms for baseband signal processing and may be reconfigured remotely by the centralized processor. A cloud wireless system may be used wherein the distributed nodes are reconfigured periodically or instantly to adjust to the evolving wireless architecture.

Link adaptation technology has been introduced in new generation transmission systems, such as 3G and 4G, optimizing both their throughput and their power consumption. Adaptation of the radio configuration requires information about the radio link quality. The information must be exchanged between the access point and the mobile terminal, leading to an associated signaling load, whose amount may decrease the system transmission efficiency. A mechanism for reducing the amount of signaling information has to be designed to increase the overall system capacity (more users, more available bandwidth). The paper addresses multi-carrier systems whose link adaptation is carried out by means of bit loading algorithms. However, the associated signaling load increases quickly with the number of sub-carriers, modulation schemes and users. These bit loading vectors are considered a-priori known at the receiver, and almost no literature concerning transmission of such information is available. In realistic transmission systems, correlation exists in time due to Doppler effects, and in frequency due to multipath delay spread. We intend to exploit this twofold redundancy to decrease signaling information load. An adaptive lossless compression system for an optimized compression performance and complexity is proposed, giving much higher compression ratio than the existing LZW bit loading algorithm (Lestable, T. and Battelli, M., 2002).

In a conventional organization of TDMA based cellular networks, the offered traffic is limited by both interference and radio resource management (RRM) issues. To overcome that limitation in very dense capacity areas (hot-spots), an original base station sub-system (BSS) organization with distributed coverage is proposed. In such a system, the base transceiver station (BTS) functionality is split between a central point, the BTS concentrator (BTSC) and several radiating elements (relays). For each communication, a set of relays connected to the same BTSC is assigned for both, synchronous broadcast of the same signal on the downlink, and demodulation of messages transmitted by the mobile station (MS) on the uplink. An optimization of the spectrum efficiency is achieved if one provides radio coverage only where needed, namely, in the vicinity of the MS. This however requires the addition of new RRM algorithm in the BSS as well as means to track the MS trajectory during its communication. This paper focuses on this last issue and several procedures performing best server-relay selection based on uplink signal measurements in an urban Manhattan-like environment are analyzed.

Optimum channel selection strategies for mobility management in high traffic TDMA-based networks with distributed coverage

The present invention relates to a method for transporting real-time data from a transmitter to a receiver on a radio packet communication network, said method comprising the steps of: generating, at said transmitter, real-time data frames, said time real-data frames comprising at least two bit portions; selecting said first bit portion and submitting it to a first modulation and coding scheme providing an error-resistance higher than an error-resistance threshold; selecting said second bit portion and submitting it to a second modulation and coding scheme providing an error-resistance lower than said error-resistance threshold; transmitting a first radio packet transmission unit corresponding to said first bit portion to said receiver; transmitting a second radio packet transmission unit corresponding to said second bit portion to said receiver, said second radio packet transmission unit being different from said first radio packet transmission unit.

A wireless mobile terminal determining a size of an advertised window depending on a current data rate of a wireless downlink transmission is provided. The wireless mobile terminal receives from a transmission control protocol (TCP) sender a data packet comprising a header portion and a payload portion; and determines the current data rate of the wireless downlink transmission to the wireless mobile terminal from signaling information contained in the header portion of the data packet; and determines the size of the advertised window depending on the current data rate of the wireless downlink transmission.
