TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the effect on motivation and science performance of using humorous cartoons to teach mineral and rock concepts to sixth grade students as compared to more traditional methods, and found that students in the experimental condition exhibited higher motivation and significantly higher gain scores than those in the control condition (23.5% gain compared to 12.3%).
