Magnetic order in α -RuCl 3 : A honeycomb-lattice quantum magnet with strong spin-orbit coupling
Jennifer Sears,M. Songvilay,K. W. Plumb,J. P. Clancy,Yiming Qiu,Yiming Qiu,Yang Zhao,Yang Zhao,D. Parshall,Young-June Kim +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors report magnetic and thermodynamic properties of single crystal ion and show that the low temperature peak in specific heat is associated with a magnetic order with unit cell doubling along the honeycomb (100) direction, consistent with zigzag order predicted within the framework of the Kitaev-Heisenberg model.
Phase diagram of α − RuCl 3 in an in-plane magnetic field
TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the temperature-field phase diagram of a layered honeycomb material and found that the magnetic order disappears at magnetic fields above 8 Tesla and a magnetic gap showing quantum critical scaling opens up in the high field phase.
Unusual Phonon Heat Transport in α -RuCl 3 : Strong Spin-Phonon Scattering and Field-Induced Spin Gap
Richard Hentrich,Anja U. B. Wolter,Xenophon Zotos,Xenophon Zotos,Wolfram Brenig,Domenic Nowak,Anna Isaeva,Thomas Doert,Arnab Banerjee,P. Lampen-Kelley,P. Lampen-Kelley,David Mandrus,David Mandrus,Stephen E. Nagler,Jennifer Sears,Young-June Kim,Bernd Büchner,Bernd Büchner,Christian Hess,Christian Hess +19 more
TL;DR: The highly unusual low-temperature heat conductivity κ of α-RuCl_{3}, a prime candidate for realizing such physics, is unveiled: beyond a magnetic field of B_{c}≈7.5 T, κ increases by about one order of magnitude, both for in-plane as well as out-of-plane transport.

Global Public Health Implications of a Mass Gathering in Mecca, Saudi Arabia During the Midst of an Influenza Pandemic
Kamran Khan,Ziad A. Memish,Aneesh Chabbra,Jessica Liauw,Wei Hu,David A. Janes,Jennifer Sears,Julien Arino,Julien Arino,Michael Macdonald,Felipe Calderon,Paulo Raposo,Christine Heidebrecht,Jun Wang,Angie Chan,John S. Brownstein,Michael Gardam +16 more
TL;DR: After the Hajj, resource-limited countries with large numbers of traveling pilgrims could be vulnerable, given their limited ability to purchase H1N1 vaccine and capacity to respond to a possible wave of H1n1 introduced via returning pilgrims.
Infectious disease surveillance and modelling across geographic frontiers and scientific specialties.
Kamran Khan,Kamran Khan,Scott J. N. McNabb,Ziad A. Memish,Rose Eckhardt,Wei Hu,David Kossowsky,Jennifer Sears,Julien Arino,Anders Johansson,Anders Johansson,Maurizio Barbeschi,Brian McCloskey,Bonnie Henry,Martin S. Cetron,John S. Brownstein +15 more
TL;DR: Integration of surveillance across geographic frontiers and modelling across scientific specialties could produce the first real-time risk monitoring and assessment platform that could strengthen awareness of global infectious disease threats before, during, and immediately after MGs.
