Childhood abuse and the experience of pain in adulthood: the mediating effects of PTSD and emotion dysregulation on pain levels and pain-related functional impairment
TL;DR: It is suggested that PTSD may serve as the pathway between exposure to childhood abuse and the development of pain-related conditions in adulthood, and that emotion dysregulation is a significant factor in understanding how PTSD relates to specific pain- related functional impairment.
Prognostic neuroimaging biomarkers of trauma-related psychopathology: resting-state fMRI shortly after trauma predicts future PTSD and depression symptoms in the AURORA study.

TL;DR: The AURORA study as discussed by the authors showed that variability in functional connectivity at the 2-week imaging timepoint predicted 3-month post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptom severity.
Inflammation, amygdala-ventromedial prefrontal functional connectivity and symptoms of anxiety and PTSD in African American women recruited from an inner-city hospital: Preliminary results
Neeti D. Mehta,Jennifer S. Stevens,Zhihao Li,Negar Fani,Charles F. Gillespie,Meghna Ravi,Vasiliki Michopoulos,Jennifer C. Felger +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors employed an a priori, hypothesis-driven approach to examine relationships between inflammation, targeted right amygdala-vmPFC FC and anxiety in a cohort of African American women (n = 54) recruited from an inner-city hospital population reliably found to have higher levels of inflammation (median CRP ∼ 4 mg/L) as well as symptoms of anxiety, depression and PTSD.
Episodic memory after trauma exposure: Medial temporal lobe function is positively related to re-experiencing and inversely related to negative affect symptoms.

TL;DR: The fMRI findings for re-experiencing versus negative affect parallel differences in behavioral memory phenomena in PTSD versus MDD, and highlight a need for more complex models of trauma-related pathology.
Amygdala-Dependent Fear Is Regulated by Oprl1 in Mice and Humans with PTSD

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the opioid receptor–like 1 gene, encoding the nociceptin (NOP)/orphanin FQ receptor, is involved in stress-mediated enhancement of amygdala-dependent fear in mouse models and humans with PTSD, and activation of the NOP receptor encoded by Oprl1 may block fear memory consolidation, with implications for preventing PTSD after traumatic events.
