Amplification and overexpression of vinculin are associated with increased tumour cell proliferation and progression in advanced prostate cancer
Christian Ruiz,David R Holz,Martin Oeggerli,Sandra Schneider,Irma M. Gonzales,Jeff Kiefer,Tobias Zellweger,Alexander Bachmann,Pasi A. Koivisto,Heikki Helin,Spyro Mousses,Michael T. Barrett,David O. Azorsa,Lukas Bubendorf +13 more
TL;DR: Vinculin is a major driving gene of the 10q22 amplification in prostate cancer and that vinculin overexpression might contribute to prostate cancer progression by enhancing tumour cell proliferation.

Using biointelligence to search the cancer genome: an epistemological perspective on knowledge recovery strategies to enable precision medical genomics.
TL;DR: The general idea of biological intelligence-based knowledge recovery that is introduced here can be broadly applied for personal genomics across many indications in medicine and it is made a case that the need for adopting such a paradigm is greatest for supporting the management of complex diseases, and particularly suited for supporting therapeutic decisions in medical oncology.

Blum,Ahmet Kurdoglu,Bodour Salhia,Amanda F. Baker,Asim Siddiqui,Linh Hoang,Paul Billings,Jeffery M. Trent,S. Mousses,D. D. Von Hoff,John D. Carpten +20 more
TL;DR: Comprehensive genomic and transcriptomic interrogation of mTNBCs has revealed events supporting co-activation of the MAPK and PI3K/AKT pathways in all the tumors albeit by different mutational mechanisms and supports potential effectiveness of combination therapy in the treatment ofmTNBC.

Method of assessing sensitivity to brostallicin
Elizabeth Bruckheimer,Jeff Kiefer,Spyro Mousses,Kandavel Shanmugam,Hongwei Yin,Steve Weitman +5 more
- 13 Apr 2009
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a method to assess resistance or sensitivity of cancer cells and patients to treatment with brostallicin, which typically comprises: obtaining a cancer cell sample, assessing the expression of at least one sensitizing target in the cancer cells sample; determining if expression of the target in a sample is reduced based on a control; and correlating reduced expression of a target with sensitivity to brostalingin.

A user-centric classification of tools for biological resource discovery and integration on the web
Rida A. Bazzi,Jeff Kiefer,Zoé Lacroix +2 more
- 05 Nov 2010
TL;DR: A classification of resource exploration and discovery tools according to five main categories is proposed: content, graphical interface, maintenance, optimization, and query.
