The method comprises: a subscriber server (3) of the mobile communication network receiving an IP address ("D") of the destination device from a node (4) of the mobile communication network, and the subscriber server updating a DNS record containing a static unique identifier of the destination device stored in an authoritative DNS server (5) reachable via the public IP address network, with said destination device IP address.

In a system and method for establishing communications in a communications network, a network service provider can assign IP addresses to mobile devices dynamically to conserve IP address resources. A network service provider can also implement network address translation to further conserve IP address resources and to provide improved security. If a requestor seeks to obtain an IP address of a mobile device and the address is a local address, the system determines if the mobile device has a network address translation (NAT) binding that associates the IP address of the mobile device with a public IP address. If the mobile device does not have a NAT binding, the system creates a NAT binding that associates the IP address of the mobile device with a public IP address.

NAT profiles are programmed into hardware forwarding elements of the mobile gateway router for inline NAT when routing subscriber traffic for the mobile access network.

The method includes: determining subscriber and session data, wherein the subscriber has a non-unique IP (Internet Protocol) address; retrieving identifying data from a packet; and comparing the identifying data with the determined subscriber and session data to determine the subscriber associated with the packet. The system includes: at least one network probe configured to determine subscriber and session data, wherein the subscriber has a non-unique Internet Protocol (IP) address; at least one traffic probe configured to retrieve identifying data from a packet; and a processing module configured to compare the identifying data with the stored subscriber and session data to determine the subscriber associated with the packet.

A system and method for providing network and port address translation is provided. A global IP address and a block (chunk) of ports are allocated for each mobile subscriber (MS) on first data connection. Subsequent data connections from the same MS are assigned the same IP address and a new port from this block. The mapping information is communicated, processed, and stored once for the complete block, instead of for every new data connection. This process reduces processing, communication, and storage requirements.
