Myelodysplastic syndrome or acute myeloid leukemia? A study of 28 cases presenting with borderline features.
Jean-Yves Scoazec,Michèle Imbert,Marilyn Crofts,Hélène Jouault,Surender K. Juneja,Jean-Paul Vernant,Claude Sultan +6 more
TL;DR: The authors studied 28 patients with borderline features between acute myeloid leukemia and typical myelodysplastic syndromes using the French‐American‐British Co‐operative Group (FAB) classification, which groups them into a separate category termed “refractory anemia with excess of blasts in transformation” (RAEB‐T).

Predictive value of host-specific donor helper T-cell precursor frequency for acute graft-versus-host disease and relapse in HLA-identical siblings receiving allogeneic bone marrow transplantation for hematological malignancies.
S. Lachance,S. Le Gouvello,F. Roudot,Mathieu Kuentz,Françoise Bernaudin,F. Beaujean,Philippe Bierling,Catherine Cordonnier,Jean-Pierre Farcet,Jean-Paul Vernant +9 more
TL;DR: The definition of HTLp cut-off values predictive of aGVHD and relapse should contribute to donor selection and could open the way to protocols adapting immunomodulation to the likely risk of aGFD and relapse.

GFP-transduced CD34+ and Lin- CD34- hematopoietic stem cells did not adopt a cardiac phenotype in a nonhuman primate model of myocardial infarct.
Françoise Norol,Nicolas Bonnet,Andre Peinnequin,Fabrice Chretien,Roger LeGrand,Richard Isnard,F. Herodin,Claude Baillou,Benoit Delache,Didier Nègre,David Klatzmann,Jean-Paul Vernant,Francios M. Lemoine +12 more
TL;DR: The data show that GFP(+) CD34(+) and Lin(-)CD34(-)-enriched HSC do not differentiate into cardiomyocytes or into endothelial cells in the infarcted myocardium and that the local production of some growth factors had no positive effect on myocardial regeneration after 3 months.

Acute non myeloid leukaemia in adults. Prognostic factors in 92 patients.
B. Brun,Jean-Paul Vernant,Micheline Tulliez,Kuentz M,J. Deregnaucourt,L. Shultze,Felix Reyes,Henri Rochant,Dreyfus B +8 more
TL;DR: The results suggested that myelofibrosis could be a poor long-term prognosis factor as well.

Splenic irradiation before bone marrow transplantation for chronic myeloid leukaemia.
Alois Gratwohl,Jo Hermans,Anja van Biezen,William Arcese,L. Debusscher,Peter B. Ernst,Augustin Ferrant,Francesco Frassoni,G. Gahrton,A. Iriondo,H. J. Kolb,Hartmut Link,Dietger Niederwieser,Tapani Ruutu,Anton Schattenberg,Norbert Schmitz,Wolfgang Siegert,A. Torres-Gomez,Jean-Paul Vernant,F. E. Zwaan,J. F. Apperley +20 more
TL;DR: An advantage in splenic irradiation prior to transplantation for CML in this subgroup of patients is suggested and illustrates the need for tailored therapy.
