In spite of having many advantages, such as low switch voltage and easy implementation, the voltage-fed dc-dc converter has been suffering from problems associated with large transformer leakage inductance due to high transformer turn ratio when it is applied to low-voltage, high-current step-up application such as fuel cells. This paper proposes a new three-phase voltage-fed dc-dc converter, which is suitable for low-voltage, high-current applications. The transformer turn ratio is reduced to half owing to ?-Y connection. The zero-voltage and zero-current switching (ZVZCS) for all switches are achieved over wide load range without affecting effective duty cycle. A clamp circuit not only clamps the surge voltage but also reduces the circulation current flowing in the high-current side, resulting in significantly reduced conduction losses. The duty cycle loss can also be compensated by operation of the clamp switch. Experimental waveforms from a 1.5 kW prototype are provided.

A Three-Phase Zero-Voltage and Zero-Current Switching DC–DC Converter for Fuel Cell Applications

An essential number of different AC to DC and DC to DC topologies and control techniques, applied on the brushed DC motor drives are presented. This extensive literature review exposes advantages, disadvantages and limitations besides giving the basic operating principles of various topologies and control techniques.

A three-phase ZVZCS DC-DC converter for fuel cell applications

This paper presents a modified sinusoidal pulse-width modulation (SPWM) switching technique in three-phase ac–dc buck converter with new modulation strategy. The modulation strategy used two reference signals (0°–60° and 120°–180° sine wave) and one type of carrier signal, instead of two types of carrier signal to generate pulse-width modulation signals. A conventional 6-switch three-phase ac–dc buck converter is extended by comprising four diodes in each switch to achieve bidirectional power flow capability. A digital feedback voltage control using two-degrees-of-freedom-control approach is implemented to achieve the output voltage to equal the reference voltage with high dynamic performance and to obtain sinusoidal ac current with unity power factor. The modified SPWM switching strategy of ac–dc power flow and vice versa is discussed and verified via mathematical model. The validity of the proposed three-phase ac-dc buck converter with bidirectional capability its PWM and the feedback control strategy is verified through simulation and is implemented in a prototype using TMS320F28335 Digital Signal Processor.

DSP-Based Modified SPWM Switching Technique with Two-Degrees-of-Freedom Voltage Control for Three-Phase AC–DC Buck Converter

Smoothly speed range changing, easily speed controlling, and swiftly dynamic response for load torque changing are the main merits which are delivered by direct current (DC) motors. They are also distinguished by their versatility. All these characteristics make the DC motors suitable candidates for various applications. An accurate high-speed control with a good dynamic response, would be of demand for many applications of the DC motors. Controlling the speed of motors using conventional systems is one of the most important method that is adopted and it can be more efficient when used with electronic power devices to control the output voltage. Hence, this paper introduces an efficient proportional integral (PI) speed controller for DC motor fed by direct current-direct current (DC-DC) convertor, which is switched by pulse-width modulation technique. MATLAB/Simulink environment is used to build the whole system. Two operation scenarios have been conducted including constant load with variable speed and variable load with constant speed.

Simulation model of proportional integral controller-PWM DC-DC power converter for DC motor using MATLAB

This paper presents the application of a single phase AC-to-DC converter using a three-phase series parallel (SPRC) resonant converter to variable speed dc-drive. The improved power quality converter gives the input power factor unity over a wide speed range, reduces the total harmonic distortion (THD) of ac input supply current, and makes very low ripples in the armature current and voltage waveform. This soft-switching converter not only possesses the advantages of achieving high switching frequencies with practically zero switching losses but also provides full ranges of voltage conversion and load variation. The proposed drive system is the most appropriate solution to preserve the present separately excited dc motors in industry compared with the use of variable frequency ac drive technology. The simulation and experimental results are presented for variable load torque conditions. The variable frequency control scheme is implemented using a DSP- TMS320LF2402. This control reduces the switching losses and current ripples, eliminates the EMI and improves the efficiency of the drive system. Experimental results confirm the consistency of the proposed approach.
