Identification of proteins involved in desiccation tolerance in the red seaweed Pyropia orbicularis (Rhodophyta, Bangiales)
Camilo López-Cristoffanini,Camilo López-Cristoffanini,Javier Zapata,Fanny Gaillard,Philippe Potin,Juan A. Correa,Loretto Contreras-Porcia,Loretto Contreras-Porcia +7 more
TL;DR: Examination of the proteome of Pyropia orbicularis showed that several physiological responses involved in DT are activated during low tide, including decreased photosynthetic activity, increased antioxidant capacity, and the preservation of cell physiology by regulating water content, cell wall structure, and cell volume.

Concise review of genus Chondracanthus (Rhodophyta: Gigartinales)
Cristian Bulboa Contador,Ignacio Pérez Massad,Loretto Contreras-Porcia,Loretto Contreras-Porcia,Javier Zapata,Javier Zapata,Francisco Castañeda,María Eliana Ramírez,Patricia Gil-Kodaka +8 more
TL;DR: The present study is a review of the available literature on members of the genus Chondracanthus, with the exception of Chond Racanthus teedei, regarding their identity, distribution, ecology, life history, population structure, chemical traits, handling, and culture.

Variación espacio-temporal en la composición del ensamble de macroalgas del intermareal rocoso de Maitencillo, Valparaíso, costa central de Chile
Claudia Betancourtt,Javier Zapata,Nicolás Latorre,Cristóbal Anguita,Francisco Castañeda,Andrés Meynard,Camila Fierro,Camila Espinoza,Eduardo Guajardo,Alejandra Núñez,Nicolás Salas,Constanza González,María Eliana Ramírez,Cristian Bulboa-Contador,Loretto Contreras-Porcia,Loretto Contreras-Porcia +15 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors determined the richness, cobertura, and composition of the macroalgae assemblage in the intertidal zone of Maitencillo, Valparaiso, Chile over the course of three years (2013-2015).
Non-Random Distribution and Ecophysiological Differentiation of Pyropia Species (Bangiales, Rhodophyta) Through Environmental Gradients.
Javier Zapata,Javier Zapata,Andrés Meynard,Andrés Meynard,Cristóbal Anguita,Camila Espinoza,Paula Alvear,Manoj Kumar,Loretto Contreras-Porcia,Loretto Contreras-Porcia +9 more
TL;DR: Results suggest that tolerance to environmental stresses such as temperature could regulate the occurrence of Pyropia variabilis GM on rocky walls; conversely, abundances of P. orbicularis on flat rocky platforms would be also regulated by other abiotic and/or biotic factors.

Biochar production from seaweeds
Loretto Contreras-Porcia,Matías Araya,Elizabeth Garrido-Ramírez,Cristian Bulboa,Jean Pierre Remonsellez,Javier Zapata,Camila Espinoza,Jorge Rivas +7 more
- 17 Apr 2018
TL;DR: In this paper, the potential uses of biochar generated from algae and to describe an efficient method of production from the kelp Macrocystis pyrifera were discussed. But the authors did not consider the use of seaweed as a fertilizer.
