Detection of latent forms of Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis infection using host biomarker-based ELISAs greatly improves paratuberculosis diagnostic sensitivity.
Cristina Blanco Vázquez,Marta Alonso-Hearn,Ramón A. Juste,Maria Canive,Tania Iglesias,Natalia Iglesias,Javier Amado,Fernando Vicente,Ana Balseiro,Rosa Casais +9 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that quantification of ABCA13, SPARC and MMP8 by ELISA has the potential for implementation as a diagnostic tool to reliably identify MAP infection, greatly improving early detection of MAP latent infections when antibody responses and fecal shedding are undetectable using conventional diagnostic methods.
Use of ATP-Binding Cassette Subfamily A Member 13 (ABCA13) for Sensitive Detection of Focal Pathological Forms of Subclinical Bovine Paratuberculosis
Cristina Blanco-Vazquez,Marta Alonso-Hearn,Natalia Iglesias,Patricia Vázquez,Ramón A. Juste,Joseba M. Garrido,Ana Balseiro,Maria Canive,Javier Amado,M. A. Queipo,Tania Iglesias,Rosa Casais +11 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that this ABCA13 ELISA greatly improves the identification of subclinically infected animals with focal lesions that are undetectable using current diagnostic methods.

Evaluation of a droplet digital PCR assay for quantification of Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis DNA in whole-blood and fecal samples from MAP-infected Holstein cattle
Gerard Badia-Bringué,Maria Canive,Rosa Casais,Cristina Blanco-Vazquez,Javier Amado,Natalia Iglesias,Aitor González,Mertxe Bascones,Ramón A. Juste,Marta Alonso-Hearn +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors designed a ddPCR assay to detect and quantify a fragment of the F57 MAP-specific sequence in samples of naturally MAP-infected Holstein cattle.
Correlations between single nucleotide polymorphisms in bovine CD209, SLC11A1, SP110 and TLR2 genes and estimated breeding values for several traits in Spanish Holstein cattle.
Maria Canive,Rosa Casais,Jose A. Jimenez,Cristina Blanco-Vazquez,Javier Amado,Joseba M. Garrido,Ramón A. Juste,Marta Alonso-Hearn +7 more
TL;DR: Differences in estimated breeding values (EBVs) for several traits were analyzed using linear models in a large cohort of Holstein cows genotyped across Spain and support the selection of the animals with less susceptibility to PTB in the Spanish breeding program.

Tuberculosis Epidemiology and Spatial Ecology at the Cattle-Wild Boar Interface in Northern Spain
Gloria Herrero-García,Pelayo Acevedo,Pablo Quirós,Miguel Prieto,Beatriz Romero,Javier Amado,M. A. Queipo,Christian Gortázar,Ana Balseiro +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors examined whether wild boar (Sus scrofa) may contribute to the re-emergence of TB in Asturias (10,604 km2), northern Spain.
