Hypothermic oxygenated machine perfusion of the human pancreas for clinical islet isolation: a prospective feasibility study.
Jason B. Doppenberg,Marjolein Leemkuil,Marten A. Engelse,Christina Krikke,Eelco J.P. de Koning,Henri G. D. Leuvenink +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, hypothermic machine perfusion (HMP) can safely increase cold ischemia time (CIT) by increasing the perfusion parameters, apoptosis, and edema prior to islet isolation.

Clinical use of donation after circulatory death pancreas for islet transplantation.
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the suitability of DCD pancreas in terms of islet yield and function after islet isolation, and concluded that DCD islets can be considered for clinical islet transplantation.

European Society for Organ Transplantation (ESOT) Consensus Statement on the Role of Pancreas Machine Perfusion to Increase the Donor Pool for Beta Cell Replacement Therapy
J. Ferrer-Fabrega,B. Mesnard,Frank Messner,Jason B. Doppenberg,Cinthia B. Drachenberg,Marten A. Engelse,P. Johnson,Henri G. D. Leuvenink,Gabriel C Oniscu,Vassilios Papalois,Rutger J. White,Julien Branchereau +20 more
TL;DR: A dedicated working group comprising of experts was assembled to review literature pertaining to the role of MP as a method of improving donor pancreas quality as well as quantity available for transplant, and to develop guidelines founded on evidence-based reviews in experimental and clinical settings.

Pancreatic islet isolation from donation after circulatory death pancreas
Jason B. Doppenberg,Marten A. Engelse,Eelco J.P. de Koning +2 more
- 01 Jan 2020
TL;DR: Preliminary results indicate that islet isolation from DCD pancreas results in a somewhat reduced number of isolated islets, but no consistent difference in functionality in vitro or clinical outcome in islet transplant recipients.

Evaluation of minimum-to-severe global and macrovesicular steatosis in human liver specimens: a portable ambient light-compatible spectroscopic probe
Hao Guo,Ashley E. Stueck,Jason B. Doppenberg,Yun Suk Chae,Alexey B. Tikhomirov,Haishan Zeng,Marten A. Engelse,Boris L. Gala-Lopez,A. Mahadevan-Jansen,Ian P. J. Alwayn,Andrea K Locke,Kevin C. Hewitt,Ashley E. Stuec +12 more
TL;DR: This study established the viability and reliability of a portable spectroscopic system for non-invasive HS and MaS assessment in human liver specimens and introduces an innovative approach to real-time and quantitative donor HS assessments.
