Comparison of methods for identification of microbial communities in book collections: Culture-dependent (sequencing and MALDI-TOF MS) and culture-independent (Illumina MiSeq)
Lucia Kraková,Katarína Šoltys,Anna Otlewska,Katarzyna Pietrzak,Sabina Purkrtova,Dana Savická,Andrea Puškárová,Mária Bučková,Tomáš Szemes,Jaroslav Budis,Kateřina Demnerová,Beata Gutarowska,Domenico Pangallo +12 more
TL;DR: The study presents the satisfactory performance of two novel alternative identification methods (MALDI-TOF MS and Illumina MiSeq) for the investigation of microflora colonizing archival items.

Seasonal changes of circulating 25-hydroxyvitamin D correlate with the lower gut microbiome composition in inflammatory bowel disease patients
Katarína Šoltys,Martina Stuchlíková,Tibor Hlavaty,Barbora Gaálová,Jaroslav Budis,Juraj Gazdarica,Anna Krajcovicova,Zuzana Zelinkova,Tomáš Szemes,Daniel Kuba,Hana Drahovská,Jan Turna,Stanislav Stuchlík +12 more
TL;DR: Investigating the possible link between the seasonal serum vitD level to the microbial composition of the lower gut of Inflammatory Bowel disease patients using 16S rRNA sequencing found low gut microbiota composition of patients with IBD correlated with the serum level of 25(OH)D that directly coupled to seasonal variability of the sunshine in the central European countries.
