While pollutant emissions from vehicles are under heavy scrutiny all around the world, small two-wheelers have not been under strict regulations until recently. Especially in the region of Southeast Asia, a tremendous number of old, in-house rebuilt and outdated two-wheelers are in operation and, as a result, pollutant emission problems are one of the most serious concerns of the communities. Since electric grid systems for consistent and stable supply of electricity are not there yet, thus plug-in series hybrid two-wheel vehicles have attracted much attention and are thought to be a meaningful solution for many people in the region. In the current study, an energy simulation tool has been developed to compare the ownership cost of an internal combustion engine (ICE)-based two-wheeler and that of a plug-in series hybrid electric scooter. To estimate annual energy cost (sum of gasoline and electricity cost), gasoline prices and household electricity rates in major Southeast Asian countries were collected. In addition, the nominal initial vehicle prices of ICE-based scooters and those of plug-in series hybrid electric two-wheel vehicles were gathered to estimate the time for the recovery of the initial investment.

A Study on the Localization of Korean Firms Entering Into the Electric Power Market in Vietnam

Purpose: This study proposes to analyze the relationship between venture firms’ R&D investment and performance, furthermore to verify the moderating effect of industrial concentration in a row. Research design, data, and methodology: In order to test the hypotheses, this study was conducted with the panel data of 300 venture firms listed on the Korean KOSDAG market for the period from 2014 to 2020. Results: The main results of this study are summarized as follows. First, we confirm that R&D investment as an independent variable had a significantly positive(+) effect on technological performance measured by patent, and industrial concentration had a significantly positive(+) moderating effect on the relationship between R&D investment and technological performance. Second, positive correlation was found between R&D investment and return on equity (ROE), market value(Tobin’s Q). In addition, industrial concentration had a significantly positive(+) moderating effect on the relationship between R&D investment and ROE, whereas it had a significantly negative(-) moderating effect on the relationship between R&D investment and Tobin’s Q. Finally, although technological performance as an independent variable had no significant effect on ROE, meanwhile industrial concentration had a significantly positive(+) moderating effect on the relationship between technological performance and ROE. Implications: Higher R&D investment helps venture firms increase their technological performance, ROE, and Tobin’s Q. However, in non-competitive market, while R&D investment effect on technological performance and ROE is greater, R&D investment has a weaker effect on Tobin’s Q. Besides, although technological innovation has no direct correlation with ROE, non-competitive market helps venture firms improve ROE with technological innovation. Last but not least, firms can take advantage of their technological innovation to enhance Tobin’s Q, especially in non-competitive market. The findings reveal a more comprehensive picture about the Korean venture firms’ R&D investment efficiency and the effect of market structure on R&D investment efficiency, providing insightful implications for firms and government. 

Study on the Relationship Between R&D Activity and Performance of the Korean Venture Firms: Focusing on the Moderating Effect of Industrial Structure Characteristics

본 연구는 최근 3개년(2019-2021)간 코로나19 관련 세계 상위 1% 고피인용논문인 HCP(Highly Cited Paper)를 대상으로 국가, 기관, 연구자, 연구분야, 학술지 및 연구비 지원기관 등의 특징을 과학계량학적으로 분석하고, 주요 요인별로 국제공동연구 및 오픈액세스(Open Access) 현황과 향후 과제를 탐색하고자 하였다. 첫째, 코로나19 관련 HCP를 보유한 연구주체별 특성, 공동연구 및 오픈액세스 현황을 살펴보고 시사점을 도출하였다. 둘째, ESI 22개 연구분야별 분석결과, 임상의학, 사회과학 및 면역학 순으로 가장 많은 HCP를 생산하고 있었다. 셋째, 학술지 분석을 통해 코로나19 관련 오픈액세스 학술지 현황과 주요국별 국제공동연구에 의한 HCP 출판 학술지 등을 도출하였다. 넷째, 연구비 지원기관을 분석하여 연구주체가 안정적 연구재원을 확보하는데 기여할 시사점을 제시하였다. 하지만 한국의 경우 코로나19 연구에서 세계 상위권과는 큰 차이가 있었다. 따라서 코로나19와 관련된 선도 연구주체와 활발한 국제공동연구 강화, 글로벌 오픈액세스 연대 동참 및 국내 연구주체의 수월성 제고를 위한 노력이 지속되어야 할 것이다. 

Study on the Activation of International Collaborative Research through Scientometric Analysis of Highly Cited Papers: Based on COVID-19 case

본 연구에서는 충청북도 국가혁신클러스터 내에 위치한 기업의 기술사업화 역량을 진단하고 이에 따른 중소기업 지원정책 성과를 연구하였다. 기술사업화 역량으로 제품개발능력, 제조생산능력, 사업화능력을 독립변수로, 중소기업 지원정책 선호도인 교육지원, 정보제공지원 및 제품제작지원 선호도를 조절변수로, 지원정책 만족도인 기여성을 종속변수로 설정하였다.BR 총 71부의 설문자료를 분석한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 기술사업화 역량인 제품개발능력, 제조생산능력, 사업화 능력은 지원정책 만족도인 기여성에 유의한 영향을 미쳤다. 둘째, 중소기업 지원정책 중 교육지원 선호도는 사업화 눙력과 기여성과의 관계를 조절하였으며, 정보제공지원 선호도는 제품개발능력, 제조생산능력, 사업화능력과 기여성과의 관계를 조절하는 것을 확인하였다. 끝으로 제품제작지원 선호도는 제품개발능력과 기여성과의 관계에 있어서 부(-)의 영향을 나타내었다. 이는 제품개발능력이 높을수록 시제품 제작의 완성도도 높아지는 점에서 제품제작에 대한 선호도가 높지 않은 것으로 해석된다.BR 분석결과를 종합하면 클러스터 소재 첨단부품 중소기업에 적합한 정보제공과 역량향상 교육이 선행되어야할 뿐만 아니라, 기업의 기술사업화 역량 강화는 기업성장 및 산업발전과 함께 지역경제 활성화를 촉진할 것이라는 정책적 함의를 제공한다.
