Developing a strategic decision- making process for local energy planning and urban land- use evaluations: The case for Balçova geothermal energy

Se empleo la tecnologia de S istemas de I nformacion G eografica (S IG) para estudiar el efecto de la distancia de los pozos productores a las manifestaciones termales superficiales y a las fallas, y para interpretar los lineamientos topogr aficos y las interfaces lineales de resistividad a profundidad para identificar fall as ocultas. Finalmente, se realizo una interpretacion geotermica aplicando un Metodo Multi - Criterio de Evaluacion (MCE) a un conjunto completo de datos que incluye geologia, geofisica y datos de produccion de pozos. Se utilizo una comparacion visual de map as de datos de exploracion y perforacion con descargas termicas medidas en pozos, a fin de seleccionar variables y rangos de datos que podrian asociarse mas directamente con niveles de produccion de energia. Se usaron pesos relativos asignados por inspecci on visual para extender este conocimiento al total del area de exploracion. Se compararon diferentes criterios para calcular un indice geotermico‘ que representa la produccion geotermica potencial de cada celda en las que se dividio el area estudiada. Tom ando en cuenta la geometria de los planos de fallas a profundidades de 700 a 2000 m, asi como un zona de exclusion de 250 m alrededor de los pozos productores, se determinaron areas de indices geotermicos normalizados para proponer nuevos sitios de perfora cion con diferentes niveles de riesgo, que van de pozos productores (riesgo bajo) a exploratorios (riesgo alto)

Selection of new drill sites using a Geographic Information System (GIS) at Los Azufres, Mexico

Geothermal energy is gaining more reputation and importance around the world. Correspondingly, suitable location selection is a critical step and has become necessary for the successful installation and operation of geothermal power plants. This study investigated suitability of İzmir region, located in the Aegean part of Türkiye, in terms of geothermal power plants applications by using the combination of Geographical Information System and Analytic Hierarchy Process. Based on the request of power plants, thirteen important criteria were evaluated under three main categories named as physical (C1), environmental (C2) and technical (C3). Moreover, expert’s opinions were taken into consideration to calculate the importance of these criteria. Key results showed that İzmir was suitable for geothermal power plants. The final suitability map layer pointed out that %8.73 (1.037 km2) of total area were determined as highly suitable regions in terms of installation. In addition, the obtained suitability map layer was compared with actual geothermal power plants. Based on the comparison study, power plants in Seferihisar were moderately suitable for geothermal power plants while the location of Balçova power plant was highly suitable. Regarding the suitability assessment in the present study, the location of Dikili power plants had the least suitability score.
