A database system configures a storage model in accordance with a hierarchical tree-like structure to enable fast and comprehensive data extraction functions. A plurality of entities, attributes and entity occurrences are each assigned a unique, multi-character expression. The expression has a predetermined hierarchical structure which defines the relationship between each entity, attribute and entity occurrence with every other entity, attribute and entity occurrence. The expressions are stored in an expression set table linking each element of each expression with a natural language phrase or data definition. Events are recorded in an entity history table each event having an associated expression. Data is extracted from the database according to a multi-character query expression comprising characters that are deterministic to the query and characters that are non-deterministic to the query. Data extracted from the database is also filtered according to a plurality of multi-character profile expressions each comprising characters that are deterministic and characters that are non-deterministic and which together define filtration criteria.

An approach is provided for generating personalizing resource recommendations. A recommendation engine causes, at least in part, a classification of one or more items into a tree structure, wherein the tree structure is based, at least in part, on a hierarchical categorization of the one or more items, and wherein the one or more items are associated with a usage history of at least one user. The recommendation engine determines one or more candidate root nodes of the tree structure based, at least in part, on one or more user preference criteria. The recommendation engine determines one or more candidate sub-nodes associated the respective one or more candidate root nodes based, at least in part, on the usage history. The recommendation engine causes, at least in part, a ranking of the one or more candidate root nodes, the one or more candidate sub-nodes, or a combination thereof.

Method and apparatus for personalized resource recommendations

Personalized information from venues of interest to a user is provided to the user. The information may comprise messages, notifications, or other information determined to be relevant to the user, and may be timely provided to the user in an appropriate format such that the user is better able to respond to the information. A set of venues that are relevant to the user and corresponding information sources associated with the venue are determined. Information published by these sources may be analyzed for relevance to the user, and the relevant information items may be provided to the user via notifications or applications and services. Further, the notifications may be scheduled for presentation to the user at appropriate times, such as prior to a predicted visit of the venue. One embodiment includes a venue-information clearinghouse for receiving information from venues and making it available for user applications or services.

When a computing device has an issue, a detector receives (or retrieves) data associated with the computing device. The data may include parameter key-value pairs. The detector creates queries based on the data and distributes the queries to one or more matching engines, such as an exact matching engine or a proximity matching engine. The one or more matching engines look for matches in an index of database documents. The results from the one or more matching engines are ranked based on relevancy scores. In some cases, users may provide feedback regarding the relevancy of the results and the feedback may be used to recalibrate how the relevancy scores are determined.

Approaches provide for using voice information to influence the importance of search result categories for a search query. For example, various embodiments may provide search results for a search query based on a most relevant search result category to the search query. Voice information associated with a subsequent user interaction may be analyzed to identify whether the search result category is correct or if search results from a different category should be provided. Additionally, the voice information may be used to update the relevance score of the search result category to the search query to improve the category matching of future queries.

A system includes a processing device and a storage medium in communication with the processing device. The storage medium includes programming instructions that cause the processing device to obtain a document and parse text within the document to determine whether each paragraph in the document is a fact paragraph, a discussion paragraph, or an outcome paragraph based on at least one of a heading associated with the paragraph and features of the paragraph. The storage medium further includes programming instructions that cause the processing device to extract each sentence in the fact paragraph, direct a trained sentence classifier to determine whether each sentence is a potential material fact sentence or a non-material fact sentence based on features of the sentence, and identify potential material fact sentences.

A method includes receiving, by a processing device, a search query including a plurality of search terms, grouping, by the processing device, the search terms into a plurality of units, where each unit includes a related one or more of the search terms, accessing, by the processing device, metadata for each document in a plurality of search results that corresponds to the search query, annotating, by the processing device, one or more locations in each document with a first indicator for each of the search terms in a first unit and a second indicator for each of the search terms in a second unit based on the metadata, and displaying, by the processing device, a visualizable results list comprising the search results with the first indicator and the second indicator.

A method includes receiving a natural language search query including a plurality of search concepts, determining the plurality of search concepts from the natural language query, searching a database using the natural language search query to identify the result set of documents, where the result set of documents are identified based on the plurality of search concepts, calculating a breadth of the result set of documents, where the breadth is calculated from an estimated relevance score that is indicative of a degree to which the result set of documents are relevant to the search query, and providing for display, the breadth as a feedback meter element. The feedback meter element provides a visual indication of the breadth of the natural language search query.
