Waveguide distribution system of the HEPS linac

Numerous research work in the field of analog filters has already been done and researchers have reached a place where robust low-power miniaturized integrated circuits are of utmost demand in the area of wireless communication. Almost all kind of filter functions are required in any RF communication, and therefore, a novel current-mode, fine-tuneable, 9 MOSFET-based Dual-output filter circuit is proposed for low-pass and band-pass output for a sine wave of amplitude 10 μA and a frequency of 60 MHz. AC and transient analysis of the proposed circuit are carried out to show the filter circuit’s behavior. The AC and transient response of the proposed filter with least MOS count is thoroughly investigated. The operating frequency is in the range of a few GHz, which covers the wireless world applications, especially in UHF and SHF bands such as mobile communications in 4G/5G networks, aeronautical mobile, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, fixed (both one-to-one and one-to-many), radio-astronomy, and meteorological-satellite services etc.

Parametric Analysis of a Novel Dual-Output Current-Mode Filter for VHF/SHF Band Utilization

The interleaved parallel technique has been widely investigated for its flexibility in extending the output power of DC-DC converters while effectively reducing the input and output ripple. This paper focuses on the research of high-power interleaved three-level boost converter topology with low ripple and high efficiency. Firstly, the application of the overall system, control strategy, modulation method are introduced, and its effect on output voltage ripple is verified and compared by simulation. It is planned to build a 20kW prototype platform for subsequent experiments. The results will build a technical foundation and provide a reference for the application of the interleaved parallel three-level boost converter topology to subsequent research in related fields.

Design and Models Validation of the Multiphase Interleaved Boost Converter for Special Applications

High power radio frequency (RF) conditioning is a key step for the RF components to gain full performance. In the construction of high energy photon source (HEPS), upgrading Beijing Electron-Positron Collider (BEPCII), preresearch of circular electron positron collider (CEPC), and other projects at Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP), there will be a lot of RF conditioning tasks within a very tight schedule. To improve the conditioning efficiency, an optimized automatic control has been developed. The automatic control system is developed based on the Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System (EPICS). The control hardware platform adopts a combination of the Micro Telecom Computing Architecture (MTCA) based low-level control and programmable logic controller (PLC) interlocking unit, which integrates a variety of measurements to ensure safe and reliable unattended operations during high-power (up to 160 MW) and high gradient (up to 33 MV/m) testing. The finite state transfer based on multiple event-triggered interrupt processes is used to improve conditioning efficiency. Taking the conditioning of the HEPS 3-m-long acceleration structure as an example, the breakdown rate (BDR) at high power is less than one out of 180 000 pulses. The time consumed for each accelerating structure is reduced by a factor of nearly 2/3. Experiments show that the system realizes the unattended operation of whole process, and improves conditioning efficiency.

Optimization of Automatic Control and Measurement for the HEPS Large-Scale High-Power RF Conditioning Test

This study presents a comprehensive physics design and optimization investigation of an electron injector system for the Korea fourth-generation storage ring (Korea-4GSR) light source with a target operating energy of around 200 MeV. The Korea-4GSR construction project is currently underway and expected to continue until 2027. The injector system comprises a thermionic dc gun, buncher systems, and four accelerating cavities (ACs). The thermionic gun was designed to achieve a combination of low emittance and high current. Through beam dynamics simulations, we investigated different types of buncher and ACs. Optimization was performed on the geometries and electromagnetic properties of each cavity type to enhance beam bunching and acceleration. Nonlinear optimization techniques were employed to maximize transmission efficiency by adjusting solenoidal magnet strengths and minimize energy spread by optimizing RF input phases and cavity positions. Our results demonstrated a transmission efficiency of 98.71%, an rms energy spread of 0.54%, a bunch length of 4.11 ps, and an normalized rms transverse emittance of 3.2219 mm $\cdot $ mrad, meeting the design requirements of the Korea-4GSR injector system.

Physics Design of a 200-MeV Electron Injector Linac With a Thermionic Electron Gun for the Korean Fourth-Generation Storage Ring Light Source

A multipurpose S-band high-power test stand (HPTS) developed at the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) of China is routinely used for radio-frequency (RF) conditioning of couplers and resonant structures, as well as other high-power experiments in the S-band frequency regime. The HPTS with a peak power of 230 MW was developed to meet requirements of various applications with multiple frequencies (2856 MHz/2998 MHz) and power levels (45 MW/50 MW/65 MW/80 MW) for different accelerator projects at the IHEP, e.g. the High Energy Photon Source (HEPS), Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPCII), Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC). This paper describes the design and implementation of the system in detail. The highlight of the HPTS is the impedance-matched design to accommodate different impedances, allowing a single pulse modulator to supply different types of klystron loads. The control system, developed under the Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System (EPICS), adopts a combination of Micro Telecommunications Computing Architecture (MTCA) based low-level RF system (LLRF) and programmable logic controller (PLC) based interlock unit controllers, and enables a real-time data acquisition and visualization. To ensure a high reliability and high-gradient RF power conditioning, the interlock unit integrates various protection features, like the short circuit load, high standing wave ratio, low vacuum, arcing detector, and abnormal dark current. It is worth mentioning that the entire conditioning procedure can be performed unattended automatically controlled. The test stand has been operated stably for more than 7,000 hours for many rounds of high-power RF conditioning with different power/frequency requirements, which indicates that the HPTS can provide a stable, reliable, and automatic high-power testing for the development of S-band related devices.

Design and development of the S-band high power test stand for multi-purpose applications at IHEP

The High Energy Photon Source (HEPS) is a 6 GeV diffraction-limited storage ring based light source, which is under construction in Beijing, China. The HEPS accelerator consists of a Linac, a booster, a storage ring and three transfer lines. Installation and high-power conditioning of the Linac has been completed. For beam commissioning and measurements of the HEPS Linac, it is necessary to develop high level applications (HLAs). The development of the Linac HLAs, based on the framework named Python accelerator physics application set(Pyapas), has been completed. All the applications are physics quantity based, including measurement applications, control applications and monitoring applications. All the applications have been tested and verified on virtual accelerator. The results show the validity of the algorithm and indicate that the developed applications could meet the requirements of Linac commissioning. All the applications have been deployed to the actual machine environment and communication and control test with hardware system have been completed.
