The checklist gives 764 species and infra-specifi c taxa, 127 genera and 39 families reported for Malaysia, comprising 38 families, 122 genera and 758 taxa for Hepaticae, and also 6 taxa belonging to 5 genera and 1 family for Anthocerotae The families with the largest number of species are Lejeuneaceae (282 taxa), Lepidoziaceae (110), Frullaniaceae (67), Plagiochi- laceae (52), Geocalycaceae (36), Lophoziaceae and Radulaceae (35 taxa each) The genera with large numbers of species include Cololejeunea (84 taxa), Frullania (67), Bazzania (53), Plagiochila (47) and Radula (35) Brief information on the distribution of known Hepaticae and Anthocerotae in Malaysia is provided

The first checklist of liverworts and hornworts is provided for the Republic of Fiji. Geographic coverage includes the islands Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, Taveuni, Kadavu, and Ovalau and surrounding smaller islands. There remain many localities in Fiji, including entire islands, which have never or scarcely been collected for this group of plants. We report 11 hornwort taxa and 280 liverwort taxa. An additional 34 taxa previously reported from Fiji are either rejected or noted as doubtful records. The list is based on a compilation of over 250 literature references, including monographs, broader regional studies and molecular investigations. Despite its apparent diversity, the liverwort and hornwort flora of Fiji has received negligible attention, and few publications exist that have focused solely on this group of islands. Knowledge of the liverwort and hornwort flora, of Fiji and regionally for the islands of the South Pacific, remains too poor to reliably comment about range-restricted or endemic species. New records will undoubtedly be reported, of regionally widespread species as well as species likely new to science. A number of the taxa presented here may be synonyms of other taxa as they are poorly known taxonomically. The combination, Frullania parhamii (R.M.Schust.) R.M.Schust. ex von Konrat, L.Soderstr. et A.Hagborg, is made replacing a previously invalid combination.

New Liverwort and Hornwort Records for Vietnam

The fi rst checklist of hornworts and liverworts is provided for Tonga. Geographic coverage includes the islands Ha'apai, Niua, Tongatapu, Vava'u, and surrounding smaller islands. It is apparent that there remain many localities in Tonga, including entire islands, which have never or scarcely been collected for this group of plants. We report three hornwort and 47 liverwort taxa. Two additional liverwort taxa previously reported from Tonga are noted as doubtful records. The list is based on over 35 literature references from over 5000 papers that the ELPT project has processed so far, including monographs and regional studies. New records will undoubtedly be reported, based on regionally widespread species that have been recorded elsewhere, especially nearby Fiji and Samoa. It is clear Tonga has received negligible attention, and almost no publications exist that have focused solely on this group of islands. The current checklist is part of a broader study producing checklists for islands across the South Pacifi c, which we hope will foster and encourage research of liverworts and hornworts in this globally important biodiversity hotspot.
