TL;DR: Eating from the Tree of Ignorance as discussed by the authors introduces a log-ical model that can be used to reason about knowledge and ignorance, which turns out to be well-suited for modeling social types of knowledge, for example common knowledge, which forms the basis of conventions such as "everybody drives on the right".
