- 21 Oct 2001
TL;DR: A user study that compared six visualization methods for 2D vector data found that users performed better with methods that showed the sign of vectors within the vector field, visually represented integral curves, and visually represented the locations of critical points.
Quantitative Evaluation of Two Dimensional Vector Field Visualization Techniques
Robert M. Kirby,Tim Miller,J.S. Davidson,David H. Laidlaw,William H. Warren +4 more
- 01 Jan 2000
TL;DR: It is argued that one goal of scientific visualization is to represent physical quantities for interpretation without biasing what is inferred from the data by the particular choice of the visualization method.
Comparing 2D vector field visualization methods: a user study
David H. Laidlaw,Robert M. Kirby,Cullen Jackson,J.S. Davidson,Tim Miller,M. da Silva,William H. Warren,Michael J. Tarr +7 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that using the inferential confidence intervals for displaying the overall pattern of results for each task measure and for performing subsequent pairwise comparisons of the condition means was the best method for analyzing the data in this study.
