En el marco de la salud mental de ninos y ninas de localidades indigenas, convergen factores protectores y factores de riesgo que no han sido explorados en nuestro pais. La mayoria de los estudios se han abocado en la descripcion de sus caracteristicas sociodemograficas y culturales, asi como en la atencion de sus necesidades basicas y de salud fisica, que proporcionan algunas instituciones del sector salud; por lo que, el presente estudio tuvo como objetivo explorar algunos componentes del estado emocional de ninos y ninas de una Casa del Nino Indigena en Ixmiquilpan, Hidalgo.

The main aim of this research is to know the habits of our students due to our concern to educate students about the importance of caring for and improving their health. Students of the First Cycle of ESO of the Centres of the Cordoba regions of the south of the province have fulfilled a survey about their daily habits related to health; In addition, to know the thoughts, beliefs and knowledge of the Physical Education teachers of these students through the conduct of a Discussion Group, in order to learn more about this perspective in relation to Physical Education and Education for Health. Among other data from the analysis and taking into account the food pyramid for these ages, it can be deduced that the students eat few vegetables and that a percentage close to 25% of the students consumes sweets 3-4 days a week. It is noteworthy that 59.3% of boys and 24.1% of girls regularly do physical activity, apart from the Physical Education class. Regarding the teaching sector, teachers thinks that students are aware of what is advisable to take and what is not; since in schools the diet is changing towards healthier habits, however, the students sometimes eat food that is not conducive to them and they do not even eat. As for hygiene habits, the teachers say that they are consolidated, but the same does not happen with postural habits that they consider not to have correct habits.

The influence of healthy habits acquired by school-age adolescents in relation to physical education classes

The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between overweight/obesity and future academic performance among high-school students in Saudi Arabia. This was a retrospective cohort study of 257 12th grade female students in Alabna (Ministry of Defence) high schools in Riyadh during 2013/14. Overweight/obesity was based on weight and height at 10th grade. Decline in academic performance was defined as a reduction by > 1 standard deviation in marks between 10th and 12th grades. One hundred and five students were overweight/obese and 30 had declined academic performance. Self-esteem scale was similar in both groups. In a multiple logistic regression model adjusted for sociodemographic characteristics, study-related lifestyle and self-esteem, overweight/obesity was associated with declining academic performance. Other independent associates included paternal and maternal education, and living outside governmentally provided housing. We report a negative independent association between overweight/obesity and subsequent academic performance among female high-school students in Saudi Arabia. The results highlight the need for community and school programmes to target overweight/obesity among high-school students.

Purpose: Physical fitness has shown to be positively related with young people's general mental health, mainly due to the changes in body composition derived from a regular sportive practice. Thus, the aim of this study was three-fold: 1) to analyze the relationship between physical fitness with the mental health status assessed as physical self-concept and self-esteem, 2) to study whether self-esteem offers longitudinal relationships with physical fitness three months after the first assessment, and 3) to know the most implicated variables of physical fitness in mental health variables. Method: A total of 1441 adolescents aged 12 to 19 years (mean=14.52; standard deviation=1.96 years), being the 49.5 % of them girls, from 4 high schools in Andalusia, Spain, participated in the study. The EUROFIT battery test was administered to the participants, as well as some questionaries to assess the physical self-concept and the self-steem. Physical tests and self-concept were assessed in an only temporal point, while self-esteem was analyzed longitudinally. Results: The results obtained indicated that physical self-concept was related to physical fitness, while self-esteem was especially related to the Course Navette test. Conclusions: These results suggest that having great levels of physical fitness, especially related to aerobic endurance, may help to have higher levels of physical self-concept and self-esteem as components of mental health in Spanish adolescents.

Longitudinal Relationships Between Physical Fitness With Physical Self-Concept and Self-Esteem in Adolescents.

El proposito del estudio fue establecer un perfil fisico y psicologico de la poblacion escolar de II Ciclo. De un total de 1.080 participantes, 318 son de cuarto grado, 418 de quinto y 344 de sexto,con edades entre 9  y 15 anos (edad promedio de 11.10 ±1.07).Para establecer el IMC se midio la talla y el peso. Para los niveles de actividad fisica se utilizaron dos instrumentos de auto-reporte:Cuestionario Pictorico de Actividad Fisica para la Poblacion Infantil y el Cuestionario de Actividad Fisica para Ninos y Ninas Mayores. La prueba “Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run” evalua el nivel de condicion fisica de poblacion infantil y juvenil.Las variables psicologicas se estudiaron mediante Cuestionario BIA y Cuestionario LAWSEQ. Segun clasificacion del Centro de Control y Prevencion de Enfermedades (CDC), el nivel de sobrepeso y obesidad es de un 28.8% y de bajo peso de 4 %. En la capacidad aerobica (VO2max),un 77.7 % se encuentra en una zona saludable para su edad. Los ninos se perciben fisicamente mas activos que las ninas. Con respecto a la autoestima, se encontro que un 35% muestra niveles bajos y solo un 10% presenta un nivel de autoestima alto.En imagen corporal la tendencia es ver la imagen ideal y futura mas delgados/as.Estos resultados sirven como base cientifica para futuras investigaciones que tengan como objetivoel bienestar de la poblacion escolar, tomando en cuenta el ligamen existente  entre el area fisica y aspectos psicologicos en la ninez.

Resumen Introduccion En las ultimas decadas se ha producido un incremento alarmante de las cifras de sobrepeso y obesidad, y esto se ha relacionado con una menor competencia social y una peor autoestima. Metodo Se realizo un estudio transversal con una muestra representativa de 296 escolares de primer y segundo curso de Educacion Secundaria Obligatoria (13,05 ± 0,97) de la ciudad de Jaen (Espana). CASO CLINICO Varon de 7 anos de edad que acudio al servicio de urgencias por presentar desde una semana antes anorexia, decaimiento y dolor abdominal colico de intensidad leve, en dias alternos, que se aliviaba tras la deposicion de abundantes heces de caracteristicas normales (2 al dia). Tambien habia sufrido tres vomitos de caracter alimentario en diferentes dias. El paciente se encontraba afebril. Entre los antecedentes personales destacaba fibrosis quistica diagnosticada al ano de edad en tratamiento actual con enzimas pancreaticas y vitaminas. Buena funcion pulmonar. Minima disfuncion hepatica. Ecografia hepatica: higado cirrotico. Los antecedentes familiares carecian de interes. En la exploracion fisica el paciente mostraba un buen estado general, bien nutrido, hidratado y perfundido. Temperatura 36,7 °C. Peso, 23 kg. En la auscultacion pulmonar se percibia murmullo vesicular ligeramente disminuido y estertores aislados. No existian signos de dificultad respiratoria. En la exploracion abdominal se detectaba masa en hipocondrio derecho tres traveses de dedo bajo reborde costal que rebasaba la linea media, sin esplenomegalia ni dolor a la palpacion abdominal. No se observaban signos de irritacion peritoneal. El resto de la exploracion por aparatos sin evidencia de otros hallazgos. Pruebas complementarias. Hemograma: hemoglobina, 14,4 g/dl; hematocrito 43%; volumen corpuscular medio, 80 fl; leucocitos, 13.100/ml (neutrofilos, 64 %; linfocitos, 24%; monocitos, 8%; eosinofilos, 4%); plaquetas, 293.000. Bioquimica hematica: glucosa, 98 mg/dl; urea, 13 mg/dl; creatinina, 0,40 mg/dl; sodio, 139,2 mmol/l; potasio, 3,67 mmol/l; cloruros, 104,9 mmol/l; transaminasa glutamicooxalacetica (GOT), 25 U/l; transaminasa glutamicopiruvica (GPT), 19 U/l; gammaglutamil transpeptidasa (GGT), 20 U/l; bilirrubina total, 0,6 mg/dl; bilirrubina directa, 0,1 mg/dl. Coagulacion: protrombina, 13,0; actividad de protrombina, 85%; INR, 1,1, fibrinogeno 392 mg/dl. Se realizo una radiografia de abdomen donde se objetivo ausencia de aire intestinal en la parte central del abdomen con imagen de “colon cortado” improntado en su borde externo en el hipocondrio izquierdo por debajo de la camara gastrica (fig. 1).
